Hi there! As someone on the autism spectrum, the lack of an instant NPC dialogue text option significantly impacts my accessibility and immersion. Currently, dialogue appears with a typewriter effect, which creates barriers for players who process information differently. An option to display all dialogue text instantly would greatly improve accessibility without affecting other players’ experience.
Sure, but that’s not a very good system. Because if you try to click it and it’s instead just a small sentence, you’ll skip that one instead.
It’s the same thing some visual novel type games do and it’s very annoying. At least most (but not all) have an option to change to instant speed. Which is what the OP is asking for, and it’s a good idea both for people that want to read it and for those that want to skip faster (less clicks).
Sadly, clicking doesn’t make all the text appear as expected. I assume the reason you recalled it working that way is muscle memory from other games, since it’s a fairly common default in many titles.
Unfortunately, clicking does nothing here — as you can see in the video. I wish it at least worked the way you described.
I know that feeling all too well! When the text goes by too fast, it disappears instantly in those systems, which is already a problem on its own.
That said, Epoch doesn’t even have this feature at all. Having it in any form would still be better than nothing. An instant text display like WoW’s wouldn’t require clicking to advance dialogue, which is exactly why I think making it optional would be the best solution for everyone.
Click-to-advance would also work for me personally, though as you mentioned, it does come with its own drawbacks.
I actually brought this up with Mike and Justin during yesterday’s live stream as well, so let’s see what comes of it!
