I’ve been playing Last Epoch for a little while now (90 hours), and I’m becoming frustrated that the big choke point for crafting is how many Runes of Shattering are available.
I have 2 stash tabs full of the exact base items I want (with ~75%+ on the innate rolls), and at least half a dozen tabs just full of items with the correct affixes for shattering into the shards I need.
Like I’m not even excited when I get the base helm I want with a really good roll because I’ve got 15 more that are as good if not better, just waiting for me to get enough Runes of Shattering in order to get the shards I need to even TRY to craft an improvement.
I think Runes of Shattering should never run out of stock, and should be used as a way to dump gold.
This… Came to the same realisation after 200h of play. (yes I am obviously slow)… With one caveat - shattering rare affixes AND T6/7 build specfic affixes on otherwise crap rolled items as this gives a higher chance of more shards.
Another recommendation re storing all these items… I had a similar issue (compounded by trying so many different builds) until I realised I was being far too lax with my requirements for what would be a really good item or not… This obviously comes with experience in knowing the subtleties of the requirements of various builds but being stricter with “keep for later” requirements. Early gear improvements are easy to find so there is no real need to keep anything… its the late game when this becomes an issue and realistically by then only the absolute best drops are worth keeping anyway.
You used to be able to login/logout over and over to buy Shatterings, I did this for about an hour one day and after that I have never ran out because you eventually get an obscene amount of regular shards. For example I have 1600 +health shards, and even 80-100 of the +set resistance shards
I mean, my argument is more that you shouldn’t have to log in and log out a bunch. If there’s already a way to get infinite Shatterings, but it’s tedious and boring, than why not just make them unlimited in shop by default?
I have a lot of shards for things I don’t want on my items, but I’ve used the gearplanner on tunklab to figure out exactly what I want in each slot, so I’m going hard on those shards, and running out faster than I can replenish them quite regularly.
Probably for the same reason you can’t just press a button & get the item that you want falling in your lap. The devs likely don’t want you to be able to shatter everything that you come across, they want you to have to think about it.
I dont disagree, logging in/out was boring and tedious but im a player that will do what is necessary and I needed them just as you did - I actually assumed it would be patched out so I took the opportunity to buy up - vendor resetting probably still works though
Gold is an issue as theres no real purpose to it other than gold sinks - EGH could add a permanent Rune vendor but make their prices really high so instead of being gated by resetting a vendor - you are gated by gold prices - I would rather grind monoliths for money instead of logging in/out definately
I have to do content to get the items to shatter. I have to do content to get the bases to craft on. I have to do content to get the gold to buy the runes. This is hardly pressing a button to get what I want.
I have thought about what I want to shatter. I’ve set up my loot filters. If there were unlimited shatter runes for purchase, and I shattered everything I came across, I’d go bankrupt very quickly.
I guess the big issue is the discrepancy. I have way more access to good shatterables, decent crafting bases, and gold than I do to shattering runes. I suppose you could reduce drop rates of items and gold enough, and you’d reach an equilibrium that way.
Like, I feel like between Shattering Runes, Shards, Gold, and Crafting Bases; Gold and Shatters are the two least interesting things to be bottlenecked on. If I had fewer crafting bases than necessary to use up my other resources, then I can be excited when I get a high rolled drop for a base that I need. Right now all drops that I find that would be useful for crafting are just more things to fill my stash fuller and fuller, as my Shatter Runes fail to keep up.
That is totally illogical. They make hundreds of runes drop, and items to get runes from, and 2 sources of shatters, and you think they want you to carefully think about what you’re doing? If you need the runes, you shatter. Theres nothing to consider other than if you need it or not. Slowing players down with time limited refreshes and/or logging out is just poor planning. Im here to play a game, not be given pointless busywork in order to flesh out the playtime since theres very little content at this point.
You can also loot the affix shards. Shattering items is an additional source of shards, not the only. If you play the game you will loot a ton of shards without shattering a single item.
If there are rare shards you don’t find regularly, but you need for your build, put that affix in the lootfilter and shatter item with that.
I doubt that relogging is the devs intended game mechanic to get a bunch of shards. It’s more of an exploit.
Limiting resources in a game is not a new idea, but common behaviour. Nothing illogical to this.
Actually, I kinda understand where they are coming from and I think it is a mistake on the devs to have shattering runes in the shop. Having them there and being able to buy those runes periodically (every 10min) and/or after log in/out does make you feel as if the devs want the runes to be more readily available to you. In which case, maybe shattering runes should just be completely removed and you can always shatter gears by paying some gold.
If the devs did intend to limit shattering of items with a rune, I think they should just balance the drop rates appropriately and remove them from the shops completely.
