It is completely inexcusable for a game this developed to lack subtitles. Clearly the developers understand that voice lines are important, since there are options to enable or disable certain categories of voice lines. To alienate hard-of-hearing and ESL players at this stage of development is beyond baffling. To see developers working on season 2 before completing basic accessibility features is beyond frustrating.
You mean for the random “you fool” voice flavour lines? Ok, bit of a weird request. All the quest text is written and the videos have subtitles (last I checked) so this only leaves the stuff that doesn’t actually matter & could be removed from the game?
As well as the townspeople and other random speech, yes. You know, the flavor that was important enough to record and add to the game. That isn’t a weird request, that is basic accessibility design. I cannot emphasize how much this should not be a request for modern video games. One-man indie games have subtitles, they have no excuse.
Yeah, I get that, and while they have the text available since they gave the voice lines to be recorded. But for the flavour text, where to display it might be a bit more of a challenge since it doesn’t occur during a cutscene and putting it in the chat area may distract the player at an inopportune time. I do kinda like how old rpgs would display this kind of text floating above the heads of NPCs as it happened.
And while it may be low effort (I have no idea), it’s also probably fairly low benefit.
I strongly disagree that accessibility is “low benefit.”
That depends on what accessibility you’re talking about. Controller support? Probably relatively high, different colour schemes for the more obscure colour blindnesses, Probably fairly low.
Not all accessibility options are of equal benefit, or will they be of equal cost to implement.
I’m not saying that subtitles for absolutely everything is bad, just that given how much is currently in text the incremental benefit is probably on the lower side conpared to if there was no/minimal text. Plus, apparently the foreign language translations are all really bad, I’d imagine getting tkose reasonable would probably help more people enjoy the game.
