In terms of difficulty, you guys hit the sweet spot for me (LONG)

(Warning, long rambling - but the basic gist is: For me, the overall difficulty was appropriate - Thank you!)

I’ve been obsessed for roughly 2 months now with LE. I started out doing my own build, that was just the theme of “hit enemies fast and hard and also have a cool Lightning Theme”.
So I ended up with a Primalist Beastmaster using Tempest Strike. I respecced a lot, theorycrafted a lot, and finally settled on some niche unique interactions that I thought were cool. And yesterday I finally did it: After a long and intense battle I beat Aberroth on my last try (no more Harbinger Eyes). Oh boy my heart was racing. Here’s a writeup of my thoughts:

Early Campaign

Early Campaign was pretty easy and pleasant to play - I could try out new stuff, and generally just take whatever, to get a feel for the combat without being seriously threatened. I don*t think that’s a bad thing in a power fantasy. However, maybe the Haruspex Orian fight could be a bit more challenging? It has epic music and some actual mechanics, but for me personally, I could basically stand still and just hold the attack button. Or maybe I just want that specific fight theme to get used more often

Mid to Late Campaign

Later on, I did definitely feel damage and difficulties ramp up. Bosses like Lagon were a highlight for me. I’ve started looking at my resistances and Health early on, so personally, I felt rewarded for my interaction with the game systems and building defensive layers in an ARPG.
I did beat Lagon on my first try, and I’m honestly happy about it. I’m not a fan of bosses that need to be practiced and learned over and over until you have a chance of beating them. At least not if they’re gatekeeping me from the rest of the game. I also wanna highlight the Respec for Gold feature - it is such a nice QoL at this point in the game. Sometimes, you just find some cool item and suddenly wanna go from 2 Handed to Dual-Wielding or vice versa.
Having easy access to respec a few nodes on your character here and there is an extreme gamechanger and seriously added fun for my playthrough.

Early Monoliths

Early Monoliths were so much fun - The mix between difficult bosses, leveling, engaging lore content and being able to regularly find exalted items was really well done. I never expected an infinite endgame grind system to be so immersive. The quest echoes that add a narrative context for each monolith really help in that regard - even if it’s mostly just unvoiced NPCs and for a first time player.
Once again, shoutout to the Respec System. My build went through several iterations, until I finally landed on something that made sense in my head: A beastmaster stacking lightning companions (4~5 Storm Crows AND 8 Storm Sprites from two equipped Tempest Maws) in order to maximize Usage of the “Stormriding Companions” node, as well as stacking Uncapped Lightning Resistance to maximize Mana Regeneration from Urzil’s Pride and Lightning Penetration from the “Soaring Blows” Node.
Yes, I am aware that my build is gimmicky and there’s probably better ways to build something strong, but this was my build and I had fun with it (:

Empowered Monoliths

Hitting Empowered Monoliths was another punch in the face for my build - I seriously had to reconsider some things about survivability (turns out, capped Res and just 2k life is NOT enough if you can’t burst down everything). I got obsessed about optimizing my build in order to take on higher and higher corruption. No joke, one day I didn’t even play the game, I did calculations how much mana cost of Tempest Strike I can sustain with my mana regeneration, in order to take the maximum advantage of the “Attuned Slam” node.
It was great. I also learned to abuse the Nemesis system in order to somewhat reliably gain Exalted Items with 2 or more exalted modifiers, and then crafting on them. The new Glyphs of Havoc and Redemption seriously do some heavy lifting here.
I also did a stupendous amount of Conquered Tower into Turtle Grinding, in order to acquire good 3LP copies of my relatively lower level uniques.
My character also became an alcoholic (I equipped the Brewmasters Buckle for defense…) .

300 Corruption / Aberroth / Closing Thoughts

And that’s pretty much where my character is right now at Level 99. After lot of Trial and Error and 10 Harbinger Eyes, I beat Aberroth. And I’m incredibly happy about it.
I’m aware that there are Build Guides that can facetank and burst him down in seconds, or other people who easily hit 2k Corruption. I know, that I’m not playing optimal. But the fact, that I, with my own messed up homebrew build, misusing Tempest Strike as a Melee Lightning Attack (while ignoring all other parts about the skill), managed to beat Aberroth, just makes me very happy. This character took me weeks to get to this point, and it’s been a ride.

So I just wanted to say: In terms of difficulty, you guys hit the sweet spot for me.

Yes. It does not need to be good, you just need to enjoy it
Imagine in Diablo 3 a monk, who was summoning a pillar to attack. So stupid, I loved it!

The first time campaign I had the exact same experience like you  Except losing to Lagon and enjoying it
After replaying I knew how to use the forge and the campaign became too easy too fast. I invented rules.
-No forging
-Only 1 unique equipped
-No items with resistance (when more difficulty necessary)

It is not important how others play the game. It matters how you enjoy it

Whoa, no forging and no resistance??

That actually sounds like a pretty hard challenge, not sure I could do it lmao
