In need of help transitioning my Rive Void Knight into 1.2

So I really do not have a lot of time in my hands to play this game, although I am having a blast with it lately. As everyone else, I am really looking forward to 1.2 update, but due to the lack of free time I will be playing in legacy. Considering the significant changes to the Sentinel passive tree and skills, I went to the Rive Void Knight build in Maxroll.gg to see what to expect, and to my dismay it is like an entirely different build… and I am kinda lost…

This is my build, and obvious improvements to gear aside (more health, +4 Rive, more crit multiplier), what should I really change in my Rive VK?

My thoughts on the matter:

  • Pick up another skill than Volatile Reversal, but cant really decide between Symbols of Hope or Devouring orb.

  • Should I change my skill tree for the rive skill?

  • Should I focus my idols on echo damage , void damage, Rive crit multi or shred armor?

  • What do I really need to change on the void knight passives?

  • For blessings, is shred physical resistance still worth it with the changes to the Rive skill (void tag)? Do I still do any physical damage?

Any and all help is much appreciated!

I think your build doesn’t change too much.

Rive was previously a Physical skill, if you keep it as it was, you’ll be converting Rive to Void type after the new patch lands, this will improve your damage and health leech amount. So you got a free buff

The change they did makes Rive “eat” ignites on your targets and give you a buff that adds Void Penetration, this improves damage of both Rive and Void Cleave, so that’s probably why they made the change. You’ll be losing the instant kill when enemy gets down to 15%, so you can try the new version and choose which you want.

You should have at least one source of Shred Armor, so if you don’t have it on gloves, weapon or amulet, you should have it on the idols.

Then I’d go with Crit Multi.

Renouncement no longer gives Vitality, so move those points. I would probably also remove points from Dread form, because there’s new goodies you want. That should be 19 points total.

As for where I’d put them:

  • 1/10 point in Devouring Blade, it’s a prerequisite for the leech node.
  • Mortal Cleave 5/5 - gives base 5% crit and %more dmg to low health enemies, that will probably push you over 100% crit chance with Rive.
  • Singular Purpose 5/5 - again % more Void damage, and some % damage reduction. You already had 4 points in there.
  • Woe 5/8 - We want the Frailty and Slow chance in the 5 point bonus, but Void Pen also boosts your damage. Now you can remove points from Rot Grip, you’re not a DoT build, and we got Time Rot Chance back from Rot Ripples.
  • Void Corruption 5/8 - to get the Crit Multi bonus.

That should leave you with 7 points. If you take away 3 pts from Doom Knight, you can put those 10 points into Paladin and get the Symbols of Hope, probably into Valor to get back some HP.

No, you won’t be doing any Physical damage anymore, so you can change it to something else. Your resistances look good, so probably the % Armor blessing.

I prefer Symbols of Hope, after patch they will be automatically casting up to their maximum amount, so basically it’ll be a permanent passive buff.
I like to take Tetragram and Polygram to raise the number of Symbols to 5, then go for Symbols of Despair to convert them to Void. Leftover points can be put into Crit.

Wow! Thank you very much for all the insightful advice! After careful analysis and consideration I am inclined to follow the following Build.

I really want the the challenge node and big third bonk of focused strike on Rive, but to get them with the flame drinkers blade I have to sacrifice some damage of the ripples of oblivion. Any opinion on the matter?

For the passives I might focus on void knight and get sorrow and steel for the increased area and some health from dark maw or more void pen from woe.

As for the idols I think I am going to focus on rive crit multi and shred armour.

Any and all additional input is welcomed!
