Ask a basic question.
Somebody answers with bad spelling and half a sentence, leaving me with more questions than answers…so I asked for elaboration.
Now I get called names. Then suddenly 6 other people tune in, knowing nothing about what happened, but they saw me asking them why they were being so rude, so they dogged on me and only me…
All because some turd called me names for asking them to clarify their sentence because I was looking for an item.
Half an hour later, they are still making up stuff about me, like saying that I was so mad that I “went afk to beat my dog”…
But somehow, I am the problem? For asking a pretty basic question?
Even worse, for being verbally assaulted by another player for asking a question…so others team up and join in on the beat-down?
Great way to build a community. Really makes it fun when people can’t ask questions in chat without people giving them intentionally bad advice and wrong answers and calling them names…
OK. Well then that’s easier to deal with I guess. Just turn it off and eventually they’ll add guilds/clans and it should be easier to find good people in game.
I’d suggest trying discord communities for the game, either official or by content creators that focus on LE, as you can often get the quickest responses that way.
A lot of questions can be answered by going through the wiki, or the help in-game. It’s also I find more accurate than the chat channels, which often feel better not even on because the only topics they cover are comparing this game to other arpgs, stroking their ego with linking items, or politics. Seriously that’s 90% of all chat discussions. You really don’t miss out having it off, just use Google. If you can’t find what you are looking for, turn chat back on, ask in the help channel, and hope for the best. I’ve had “helpful” people give entirely the wrong answer, arguing with what the in-game help spells out, and then instantly get defensive / mad about it.
Unless it’s changed, the wiki is pretty inaccurate.
Discord would be a lot better if you want an immediate answer, or here if you don’t mind waiting.
@EmperessPotatoe I’ve not generally had that experience myself, but it’s not an uncommon experience in game chats generally. People feel like they can be dicks a lot more easily with fewer repercussions. I still say that LE chat is better than a lot of other games, especially if those games attract teenage boys (FPS).
Sorry for your experiences. Turning off the global chat and never turning it on again is one of the first things I do in games like this nowadays. The forums are a much better address for receiving actual help and input.
I don’t think the wikis are updated often (or accurately). Unless you’re talking about LETools, which technically isn’t a wiki, but does have most of the information you need.
Forums/discord is a good place to look for information. In game chat is mostly for getting lifts or help with bosses.
First of all. If you are annoyed by ppl who ask stuff in the chat don’t answer. Even telling them to google stuff is stupid to begin with. Interact with persons questions if you want to answer them and interact with other people or stop yapping nonsence. Noone deservs this.
If someone behaves this way as the OP says report them and hopefully EHG has the balls to at least mute them ingame or kick their behinds out so they can make someone elses day bitter.
That kindergarden behaviour is just beyond stupid and I hope EHG takes every step nesessary to stop it. As for informations ask aways if you want to know something. One shortcut I want to throw in to begin with: Press G (default key) for the ingame guide. This one will help a lot with a lot of questions. Then again don’t let some unfriendly people ruin your experince.
Since release I have my chat disabled for a reason because the ingame chat has even lower quality then EHGs balancing approaches or my written english.
That’s teh most commonly given piece of advice for new World of Warcraft players. Join a nice guild, then shut off Trade / General chat…nothing worth hearing is ever said in there.
As a counter, it’s also the primary reason why their community is so empty now.
When all the normal people left the chat, new players only get to see the mentally unwell people who intentionally troll for negative attention from strangers because they have no friends, no family, nobody calling in to check in on them or call them out for being crazy…
So instead of getting their questions answered, they just get trolled and unsubscribe and then go tell their friends how bad teh game and community are, and the game slowly bleeds to death.
This is literally, imo, the best arpg on the market. Played ARPG since Diablo came out. I still, currently, have the original D2 installed on my pc. A cracked version, allegedly. But I do still have the disc and boxes. Played every arpg. THis one is the best overall.
I don’t want to see this go the way of WoW.
To be fair though there are skill interactions that don’t get answered and even Google doesn’t find it, but just testing it out with how easy it is to respect isn’t too bad.
lol now that same person got their friend to add me on discord, chatted with me for a solid 4 hours about anime, cooking, ren faire…
Then went in game and started trashing me, blocked me, and then made up some more crap about me.
GG, great community. Bro calls me rude names for asking a question, then his friend adds to the abuse while playing the victim. While tag-teaming the trash talk against me…

Just, wild. I don’t even know what else to say. I haven’t seen such open-face mental illness in a community since I played League of Legends.
The trolls are literally teaming up to do deep trolling.
