I'd like a Rune that traded a Unique Affix for Legendary Potential

I’ve had a number of “almost good” Uniques, but because they don’t quite hit “good enough”, their fate is to be ditched in a gutter somewhere or sold for a pittance of Gold. I hate stuff like that, and I desperately wish I could roll the dice on potentially making a Unique into something useful instead of being guaranteed to toss it.

Basically what I’m asking for is a Rune of Removal for Uniques, but instead of an empty slot, it gets Legendary Potential.

I know what you mean about there needing to be something we can do with the hordes of duplicate uniques that aren’t quite good enough to use (notwithstanding that they may not be for the build we’re currently playing), but i can just see the ragestorms when this putative rune takes the good unique affix that makes the unique and converts it into 1 LP. Then we’ll have just burned a rare rune and got a unique thats vendor trash in a slightly different way.

The issue is that there are only a handful of ways that duplicate Uniques could be made genuinely useful without it getting out of hand:

  • They can be consumed to boost the stat rolls of another Unique of the same kind
  • They can be consumed to reroll the stats of of another Unique of the same kind
  • Their slots can be gambled on to trade Affixes for Legendary Potential

I don’t know the developers’ feelings on the first two options, but the third option already exists for Exalted gear in the shape of the Rune of Removal, so I figured I’d suggest something along the same lines.

If it was my decision I’d take the first option in a heartbeat, but I recognize that Last Epoch is pretty invested in keeping RNG as part of the loot/crafting systems, so c’est la vie.

This idea is a vibe, i love it.

So sacrificing a random affix on a unique to get another slot (i.e. LP) for a random affix from the donor exalted item when creating a legendary.

Hmm… RNG is gonna kill you (especially when it removes the “special unique affix”) but if it could only be used once on a Unique so the max you can get is another 1 LP, then maybe…

The RNG of getting the rune of removal specifically for this AND the RNG of which affix it removes and a limit of 1 will probably be enough to prevent it breaking too much.

Crazy but at this point I have 10’s of stash tabs with hundreds of uniques I am never gonna use… so why the hell not…

As for using duplicate Uniques to boost others via some sort of sacrifice, thats been asked and discussed at various times before if I recall. No idea if the devs are entertaining it.

Yep, and that’s very intended. It’d take one rare piece of equipment, one presumably rare (or at the very least uncommon) crafting component, and run the risk of ruining the item. Successful results would be limited by the nature of the system - it’s not guaranteed to work out in the user’s favor, but it’s also giving a chance for a duplicate Unique to turn useful (or even meta, if it’s being used on the right Unique and the right Affix gets cut).

There would probably have to be minor limitations (you can only do it once per item, deliberately negative affixes cannot be removed, etc), but otherwise the idea balances itself: gamble on bricking a Unique for the potential to make it something much more powerful.

This game already has faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too many layers of rng. It doesn’t need more rng as a fix.

I like more the idea of consuming duplicates uniques to reroll stats of a unique and also reroll LP chance.
I think it could be a cool idea and would not hurt overall balance of chasing end game gear.

to explain why this is BUSTED, imagine a unique that is decent, it has a bunch of powerful effects - but that is balanced by a negative effect

Eg. +100% attack speed but 30% less damage
Now if you remove the negative stat suddenly you have a MUCH more powerful item

and if this happens ON TOP of extra potential being gained, it could very easily lead to items becoming impossible overpowered

In the game there are already items like this,

Titen heart(you cannot regen life, if removed becomes very powerful defence item with no negative and also an increased damage mod), Aarons Will(the you cannot summon skeletons is removed, so you have an army of skellies on top of powerful bone golems), Bolderfists(removes you cannot leech, which makes the item actually usable instead of trash), wing guards(remove you cannot crit, which would make this a BiS for ANY melee build), Sacrificial embrace(crits dot do extra damage, if removed this item would result in a +10 to +100 to void spells without a downside, making it BiS for long cooldown void spells) Azzurals fury(removing the you cannot regen mana affix), Stormtide(shocks you), Solurons step(negative phys res), last steps of the living(chills you), pact severance(does not autosacrifice minions anymore), Culvinars claim(autoconverting ALL mana into ward is quite annoying), deaths embrace(consumes your life/extra mana on grim harvest, these are separate affixes) draalsting(less attack speed), Lament of the lost refuge(stacks removed when you use a movement skill), Laviathan carver(cannot avoid crits) aberrant call(health loss of minions over time), plague bearers staff(life drained per second), Close call(reduced block effectiveness), lifes journey(life lost per second), grimroire of necrotic elixers(life loss per second on potion)keltham blasting agent(less decoy duration), Silvafrond(extra cooldown for summon vines, turns it from absolute garbage to situational), bleeding hearts(bleeds you on spell cast, less regen) gamblers fallacy(less crit if you recently crit), chimeras essence(reduced all res while transformed), Xitharas conumdrum(cannot leech, cannot regen) Serpents milk(minions do 90% less poison damage, the one affix that makes this item UTTER TRASH, would result in this being good in some niche builds), Singularity(you cannot do critical strikes)

THE WORST OFFENDERS
Ravenous void(already a crazy good item, the removal of the taking void damage and disable void barrier generation affix would result in it making you even more tanky), Morningfrost(BiS for phys/cold dex stackers, would lose the negative of lowered resistances, making it even more OP), Roots of vithrazil(you cannot move in spriggan form, on a high tankyness item, results in you being almost unkillable while you run about with no negative), The slab(reduced block chance, this can result in a 50 or so percent chance of 0 damage taken when class passives and the legendary potential affix get added in) Cradle of the erased(stack lost on block, resulting in 61% block chance from the shield alone), , apostates sanctuary(can be used to generate a ton of ward, but has two VERY bad negatives, without the one that gets rid of your ward, you can use it to make a insanely tanky build by just stacking phys res), Throne of ambition(loses stacks if you go more than a few seconds without a new stack, if this is removed 40% more fire, cold and armor constantly once this is capped)

and a funny one
Eterras path(summoning a ton of vines, which is just annoying and gets in your way)

He understands it and explained negative effects in his system could not be removed…

with the limitation of cannot remove negatives, it just is not good enough, as almost every positive unique affix is something you want to keep on the unique

without it it is just OP

Not really. I use Sunwreath on my Paladin, but it has an affix that upgrades Flame Reave - a Mage skill. I also use Vipertail on a character that doesn’t have Summon Serpent and get no benefit from the Lightning Damage on Liath’s Signet because I’m all-in on Fire damage. Almost every Unique has at least one Affix that’s not universally useful.

I would be quite happy if in the Temporal Sanctum you could place 2 Uniques and get a new one with stats from both and a chance of LP. And even if it doesn’t get the LP could be the seed for the next craft improving slightly the chance of getting LP the next time you sue this Unique on the Temporal Sanctum.
With lower chances the more LP.

So at least a use for the horde of duplicated uniques…
