So I can’t help but feel I’m clearly doing something wrong trying to get the Bastion of Honour to drop. I’m in the Black Sun on Empowered at Corruption 220, I have the Unique drop blessing of 12% and the shield drop blessing of 72% and I’m doing every shield unique/set echo I come across and nothing for 3 days now (About 10 hours playtime). Am I doing something wrong or am I just that unlucky? I have TBH I’m getting bored and cheesed off. Any hints would be great, thxs.
Wish you better luck on this. Just sounds like the game is being stubborn. I looked it up and apparently it should drop off that Monolith eventually.
I will say, I’ve played around 150-ish hours total since 0.9e dropped now and I still have not seen this shield. I have 6 full pages of uniques and there are certain ones that just don’t like to show up in the loot table for whatever reason. Several people have talked about others here they haven’t seen that I have.
It’s kind of strange. I wonder if which class you’re playing influences it at all. If it doesn’t, it probably should. Grinding over a hundred hours and still missing content like this probably shouldn’t be possible. At least, I think it shouldn’t be. Time is finite and grinding isn’t great content, as I’ve said a good many times around here.
Hope it shows up soon! If not y’know, take a brief break. You may see it immediately the next time you pick the game up.
Bastion of Honour is a very rare item. I’d be more surprised if you did get one after farming for only 10 hours.
Bastion has an ~1.2% chance to drop from those unique item nodes. That means that there’s only a 70% chance that you find one in the first 100 unique nodes (1 - 0.988^100 = 0.30). You just gotta keep farming and get a little lucky. You’ll find one if you keep looking.
TunkLab has a unique drop simulator where I’m getting the 1.2% number from.

Also want to call out that all of what I laid out above isn’t happening in a vacuum. The numbers above assume the only place you could possibly drop Bastion is from the echo reward. That’s not true since it can drop from any mob over the item’s level requirement. In theory the actual chance is higher than what I’ve laid out above.
You will grind for 10 hours more, get frustrated and try something else.
Then it will drop from a random crate.
I will tell you what you are doing wrong
You are not lucky enough
you need to either boost your IRL luck stat or keep grinding
Lol. Yep this is probably the actual best strategy if considering IRL sanity. Farm for Bastion for a few boss fights / Orobyss runs. Switch to another timeline to do something else. Go back later. Repeat.
edit: Maybe even start a new character since the first and only Bastion I’ve dropped in >300 hours was on a character in the 50s that had just started the 58 timeline.
Thxs all for the replies. Ill just keep hitting my head against that brick wall.
Good luck
Try getting a Squirrel Helmet then come talk to me.
Happened to me just like this. Wasn’t even farming it and on my sixth character, just two days ago, bam. there it was.
If there was LE “im in the shower” detection, i guarantee you every good drop would come while Im in the shower. Thats where all my good ideas happen.
Try getting a Squirrel Helmet then come talk to me.
No lie m8 I have 2 that just randomly dropped. I might try the bleed squirrel build out but in happy with my bear UP.
No it doesn’t.
The item affinity system that was implemented a while ago only reduced regular items of certain item types for some classes.
This does not affect Unique or Set items.
They have said before that you’re more likely to get a “class set” item (eg the Avalanche set) on the relevant class.
I would definitely be for changing that to tilt the gear, especially the Exalted items, towards what you need on the class you’re playing. I’d say to guarantee about 25-30% of what they see drop is actually relevant to the player’s class. They self-selected themselves as that class, so that’s what the player wants to do. Getting thrown 6 pages of uniques and set items in 100 hours you’re never going to use is pretty annoying. Made worse by the fact that some builds need very specific items for that class.
I say this from a place of experience also - In my 150-ish hours since 0.9e dropped, I kept every unique, exalted and set item. I got about 6 tabs of uniques and 2 tabs of set items. Most of that playtime, about 125 hours, was on Acolyte. A huge fraction of those were for Mage, to the tune of over a third. Another huge chunk was for Primalist. And this was before I started my Primalist, when I sorted and checked the numbers.
I’m not saying that’s typical, necessarily, but being able to get that much of the stuff you want to see off-class is maybe not the greatest way to go about it. I’ve always had this issue with ARPG’s though. I feel like some solve this problem much better than others.
I don’t like weighting loot based on classes, because then the system kinda dictates what will be the most successful in terms of loot.
The devs give you all the tools with skills and Passives already, but if you are doing something outside the box a system like that punishes you.
Also finding something that sparks and idea for a different build/character is one of the best things about loot driven games.
Also the problem is, that it’s very hard for the game to actually give you use full stuff, because the game doesn’t really know what exactly you aiming for.
I mean, maybe. If it’s a game where a lot of cross-class items exist where they could be used to create different builds on different characters, that makes sense.
Also the problem is, that it’s very hard for the game to actually give you use full stuff, because the game doesn’t really know what exactly you aiming for.
Right, and that’s kind of the issue with random loot in general, is there’s too much stuff you can possibly get and too little of it you actually need. If there were some more ways for the player to tell the game what they are trying to do, that’d make it easier. But the fact that your build evolves and changes over time also makes that tough to do.
Yeah there’s not a perfect way of fixing it, but I know for sure I got a lot of stuff I don’t like or intend to use. It’d be nice to be able to at least trade it in or reroll it for something else.
This boils down to the feeling of efficiency or always having achieved something.
I don’t like that mindset because it will foster a very bad community.
People always feel like they have to get something useful.
This is a RNG based loot game, some days you are out of luck, some days you drop 2 rare endgame uniques that you always wanted.
