When fighting the boss Husk of Gaspar at the end of the End of Ruin timeline, the tri-beam ability is basically hard locking me out of progression since I don’t have enough move speed. Even if I play correctly, and move constantly during the beams, I still get caught and die. This is not good design, as even when playing correctly, I am still punished for missing the specific stat of Movement Speed.
The Tri-beam needs to move slower. Like the speed of the standard character movement, or you are going to continue to kill players who do the fight correctly. It would be alright if the beam was even an instant kill if touched, but literally not being able to avoid it is extremely frustrating.
I am playing a VK, so I use Lunge as a movement skill, which doesn’t help since i have to target an enemy for it to work without a specific unique.
Are you moving around the boss, as close as possible to the boss?
I am almost sure that a high end boot base type (15-18% MS) should be sufficient to avoid the beam, if you are positioning yourself properly.
The further you are away from the boss, the faster you need to move to avoid it.
But yeah movement speed is a very strong stat and there is almost no reason to not pick it or at least get some movement speed from other sources (like temporary buffs or passives).
Last Epoch is a game of telegrahps and avoiding them. Movement speed essentially is one of the strongest defensive stats.
I have 15% base, with 12% added to the boots for 27% total from gear. But it doesn’t really matter what my stats are, if a player can play correctly and still fail, the design is the flaw.
If a player with 0% added movespeed (somehow) gets to the boss and plays perfectly, they should be able to succeed.
The beam always rotates clockwise, so If I see the beam’s trajectory literally clipping my character, I would run counter clockwise instead and stay fairly close behind the moving beam. So there’s a decent gap between me and the other beam behind me. But I feel like the beam has a larger hitbox than it looks which the devs might need to look at. This is just how I do it, I hope this helps.
EDIT: Sorry, actually I’m not sure if Gaspar’s beam is clockwise. The void enemy in early part of the story does clockwise though. So just run to the opposite side of the beam’s rotation lol.
You can also stand on the stairs on the left side and the beam only briefly tickles you each time it goes by. Makes it pretty easy, especially if you have the range to dps from there.
Thank you, I was beginning to feel a bit parched as my butler has not delivered me the tea I asked for, I will have him Birched. But your gamer tears have provided some much needed hydration.
