I can never get ahead of it and even with capped res it kills me.
I’ve watched a few videos on how to do the fight.
The tri-beam moves way too fast.
can you slow it 50%?

I just need to kill Gaspar to be able to unlock empowered monoliths
You’re roughly as fast (a bit faster) as his tri-beam when staying close and having a par of boots with T5 movement speed.
Don’t attempt him below that. It’s a baseline of what’s needed for his fight.
Also stay close to him, just close enough not to get hit by either of 2 beams. It’s a very punishing attack but by no means unfair.
i have 34% movement speed with Eterras path boots
I never survive more than 5 seconds once the fight starts, it’s ridiculous
this seriously feels worse than when POE first added the Labyrinth, that was painful with the deadly traps. That made me stop playing for 3 years or so until they changed it.
I just fought him for the first time. It’s strange. That beam killed me several times, but I had a tough time gauging my distance on the top side of the circle. On the bottom half I had no problem staying in line with the beam.
If anything, my move speed might have been too fast, because I struggled to find the distance that would keep me safely between the two.
It’s bosses like this as to why I’ll never attempted hardcore mode in this game. There’s just no way I’ll make it through all of these bosses without dying
knowing that this boss mechanic exists gives me zero incentive to make any new characters because this is what is waiting for them… The impossible to beat Gaspar.
The problem isn’t that it’s too fast, it’s that the hitbox on the beams is absolutely terrible. It’s like 20-30 degrees ahead of the visual effect, but also seems to vary based on current server latency.
It’s pretty frustrating.
This may explain why I have a tough time avoiding it at the top of the screen, versus the bottom half.
Even now, on my warlock with basically 100% move speed, its just awkward on the top half. it hits me and I’m not standing on it.
I just spent a few minutes dying to this mechanic before I realized that in order to avoid the damage from the beams, I need to run just behind a beam. It feels very strange to do it, but once I did that, the fight was less than 30 seconds. The hitbox is horrible, and definitely needs to be addressed, but once you know where it actually is, the fight is cake.
Exactly. Hitbox is bad and you need to be nearer to the beam you follow than to the beam that follows you. Also, just stay near the center of the tri-beam, this way, you can run slower and the beam doesnt catch you. I just did it for the first time tonight. Just find the distance you need to keep between the center of the tri-beam so your running speed matches the speed of the tri-beam.
The hitbox has been broken for at least 1 year (probably forever), they either can’t fix it or they don’t care to fix it.
This boss is hard, I am currently fighting him. The beam speed is fine, just get closer to him.
It is hard, I don’t want it made easier, because it can be beaten with a little practice.
All of Gaspar’s ability hitboxes are terrible. Void Blast is practically impossible to judge because the zones have soft particle edges and appear to spawn in the air, completely disjointed from where you character is positioned on the ground, so it can appear to you that you’re in a safe spot when you’re really not.
Exactly that was my impression as well!
And that really is something which should be addressed.
I ended up cheating and went up the stairs to the left and swallowing a potion.
Edit: Can‘t wait for 1.1 and the pinnacle bosses.
