how to reset a monolith?

I would recommend checking out the game guide by pressing [G] In-Game.
This will probably explain most of the systems, including what you just asked.
But to answer your question anyway:
You need to kill the Shade Of Orobyss on any of it’s designated echoes.
These are the special looking Monolith stone looking Islands.
In their Echo Reward Window it will state a Corruption Value that is gained/lost and “Resets The Echo Web”.
These have an increasingly chance to spawn, the further you are away from the starting point
Killing a shade doesnt reset the modifiers though, if i am not mistaken, which is what i think the OP is asking ?
I think there is no way to fully reset the monolith. I mean, removing all modifiers, all the corruption and resetting the web.
This is part of the issue for some builds. In discord, there was a discussion some time back about hitting dead ends where there are 2 arenas on the only branch going forward. If the build is not made for the arena due to either low offense or defense or new to the MoF they are stuck to go back to the campaign to level up to get past something that would not have been encountered in the old system.
