How to manage late game upgrading/hoarding?

I’ve been through a few characters now, and I always end up running into a problem at endgame where once I’ve gotten my basic gear set up, I start having trouble getting meaningful upgrades in part because it’s kind of hard to figure out how to juggle all the cap stats.

I end up with some stats wayyyyyy over the cap and some which are right on the line, but because of the way those stats are distributed across my gear, it’s really hard to dump one of them to get more of a stat I want without going under on a different stat, especially because I’d need to both find some pieces which keep me at my caps while also being an upgrade in some other way.

The result is I end up hoarding a lot of pieces of gear on the chance that “well maybe this will be useful for my resists, I’ll craft it when I think I can use it.” Then slowly I accumulate items until my stash is so cluttered it’s overwhelming to begin to even think about how to make use of what I have. And after a while I start getting my ass kicked because I haven’t actually upgraded my stuff in a while.

Can anyone give some advice on how you approach this?

Also, is there a way to link to my character so I could get more specific advice?

If you find this is something you struggle with consistently I would recommend playing sentinel and using holy aura. You can allocate points to passive tree or deallocate as needed to gain or lose a certain resistance.

Otherwise it is much like you are saying, the goal is to figure out what your base resistances will be, what contributes the most to those resistances and to find a clear goal to where you want to get resistances from.

For example I’ll typically run the void resistance gloves on most builds so I know I’ll need at least one t5 void resistance affix unless a unique covers that resistance for me. Also as a note missing a little bit of resistance (you can even go down as much as 25%) is not the end of the word if you’re subsidizing those with health affixes.
