How to get more Ward

My Necromancer is currently wearing the Shroud of Obscurity Acolyte Body Armor. I am trying to wrap my head around how I can gain as much Ward as possible, as I have never played a low-life build before. Raising my Ward Threshold is obvious. I want to seek that affix out for gear. But, what are the other ways to give me more Ward?

Ward threshold
Ward per second
And ward retention

And health, but most definitely not life regen or leech.

Any low life/ward build that utilizes Shroud of Obscurity, Exsanguinous, Last Step of the Living and/or the Experimental Glove Affix wants to combine them if the build allows that, because once you are using one of the, the others are naturally synergistic.

On top of that you want the following in this Order:
Avoid leech, Health Regen and Health Leech (you want to stay as low hp as possible)
Maximum Health
Ward Retention
Ward per Second
Ward Threshold

All of these stats have diminishing return, but Ward Threshold usually is realtively bad for these kind of builds because you will have thousands of Ward and Ward Threshold is relatively hard to stack.

Health and Ward Retention are the ones you should try to scale the most as much as possible and try balancing them out, but usually they don’t compete witheach otehr in terms of affixes.

As mentioned before.

Health, more health and some extra health.
Also the experimental modifier on gloves, they are the most important defensive measure you can get beyond, T5 (or even T7) onto unique gloves is absolutely amazing to have.
Then afterwards ward retention.
Then everything else.

Thank you so much, everyone.

they forgot: ward on hit and %ward from mana cost. It’s big source of ward for some classes

The only thing my Necro does at the moment is cast Bone Curse, so I am not sure Ward on Hit would be beneficial. Does a “hit” only apply to melee?

Personal spells and hits basically. So anything doing damage from you. Minions/totems/companions are excluded.

I am curious about this too. I know Bone Curse counts as a hit from players when the cursed enemies are hit, even by your minions but skill tooltip specifically states that it doesn’t proc on hit ailment, and I am wondering if it procs other on hit effects like ward on hit.

That’s a good question, I don’t know the answer to that one sadly.

Leaning to believe it does work for ward on hit, since it specifically states “ailments”. Otherwise, they probably woulda phrased it like “doesn’t proc on hit effects”.

Although, maybe it wouldn’t work if only the minions are doing the hits. But that is also not conclusive, since the minions are simply hitting the enemy, making it proc your own curse’s hit effect, so it could work like that also?

Maybe that ailment proc prevention is really only there to prevent doubling the ailments on each hit, since to make the curse work, the monster has to be hit in the first place, and your hits would already be inflicting the ailments.

From memory, if the target is cursed by both Spirit Plague (with the ward on hit/crit/whichever) & Bone Curse (used to be with the auto crit node but I think things might have changed in 1.1/1.2) you can get ward on hit (from Spirit Plague).

I think no one said, stack much intelligence as you can.
Because inteligente give to you a passive ward retention.
