Hi - I recently started played LE more seriously and quickly found that respeccing basically removes all your skill/ability progress and is more of a start over than a respecc. I can get used to that, but it leaves me confused on how to make builds.
As I don’t get my main skills, in some cases, until much higher levels, do I just not spend points specializing in anything until level 30+? or, do I just spec into early game skills and then respeccc out of them later and deal with the progression setback?
Skills level up based on the experience enemies give when killed. You’ll find that later in the game skills level up to 10-15 rather quickly. My recommendation is to only respec one or two skills at a time so that your other skills can pick up the slack while the new ones level up.
Take the skills you want for you build when you can. Use other skills that give some benefit until then for your remaining slots.
Generally, if you do ot have the skills you want to use available yet you just spec into what ever you feel like. There are a couple of skills that are head-strong without needing much build/skill synergy.
The Skill EXP Curve is exponential, so when you start speccing into a skill at lvl 30+ you will gain the first few level within mere seconds/minutes.
What kind of characers do you want to play? Maybe i can give you some suggestions.
General good skills i would recommend:
Primalist: Thorn Totem + Ice Thorns(With totem skill spec tree part)
Sentinel: Vengence(with damage reduction/riposte part upper middle)
Acolyte: Marrow Shard + Rip Blood, great early synergy with spending/gaining health.
Mage: Lightning Blast, Snap Freeze

I tend to spec into an early-game skill initially for the first specialisation slot, the pick up the skills for the build as I go along. Specialising in the main skill as early as possible, then spec out of the first skill when I’m happy with the main one.
For example, if I’m making a shield throw build, I’ll lvl with hammer throw until I can take shield throw and spec it for zero cooldown, then get rid of hammer throw.
Thanks for the reply - helps a lot. I was thinking about Serpent Strike for a poison build, or maybe something with ice and freezing abilities. I do like faster paced skills or big AOE.
Serpent Strike is awesome too. One single node i would recommend for that is “Primal Reflexes”, which is absolutely bonkers. 60 dodge per attack, each stack has an independed timer and no stack limit. Just cost you 6 points without any investement, sicne it’s a node directly connected to the starting point.
