How "good" are 30% dmg dealt to mana for 4k life & 1k mana?

Wondering how good relly damage dealt to mana before health - in this example 30% - really is. (lets say no ward in this example)

  • If I have 4000 health without ddtmbh and I take a 4000 dmg hit I die.
  • If I have 4000 health, 1000 mana and 30 % ddtmbh and I take a 4000 dmg hit —> 1200 of this hit go to mana and my life takes 2800 dmg?
  • If I have 4000 health, 1000 mana and 30 % ddtmbh and I take a 5000 dmg hit —> 1500 of this hit go to mana and my life takes 3500 dmg?

If this is correct then it is actually a huge ehp/DR for chars with combined high health and mana or?

yes, that’s how it works however, the helmet is a very contested gear slot, and most builds aren’t going around with full mana bars

The bigger problem you need to solve is recovering said mana.

Some builds do that easy, others not so much.

A neat little quirk of damage to mana, is that its dealt at a 5:1 ratio.

So if you take 1k damage after all other mitigation, with 25% damage to mana, you will split the pool into 750 and 250, the 250 will go to mana as 50 mana damage and the 750 will go to health.

it gets even better when you consider the helmet also makes 50% of endurance apply to mana as well so with 60%, all damage dealt to mana is 30% reduced. That means in the above example, 1k damage becomes 750 and 250, the 250 is then reduced by 30% to 175, which is then dealt to mana as 35. which is barely anything for builds that can restore mana quickly.

I think the maths is a bit more complicated as those items/nodes usually say that mana only shields a certain amount of health (& I’ve never been arsed to do the maths), but broadly yes.
