How does level requirement work with crafting?

As you craft an item, the level requirement goes up. What happens at the upper end of this? Does an item get blocked off of future crafts because it would theoretically go above level 100? Or does the item cap out at a certain level requirement, but you can keep crafting on it anyway?

When you add a new affix or tier of affix to an item the new level requirement to craft is the level requirement to wear that item, so if you’re 30 & you craft an item which then requires 31 to wear, you’ll not be able to craft more on it until you’re lvl 31. There is an upper level requirement but I can’t remember what it is (probably in the 80s?) but it definitely can’t go above 100.

Though mucking about in LETools, if you put 4xt7 affixes on an item you get a lvl requirement of 86. If that item then has a t7 sealed affix, the level requirement would be 102. Though a t4 + 3 t7 & a sealed t7 item would have a lvl requirement of 96 to wear/craft & the t5 + 3t7 & a sealed t7 would have a level requirement of 100.

Once you can’t raise the tiers of affixes any more or add new affixes, all you can do is use the runes that reroll affix numbers within their tier (Refinement), shuffle the tiers (Havoc), shuffles the exalted affixes (Redemption), Creation (duplicates the item) or upgrades it to a unique/set (Ascendance).

The crafting system prevents you “bricking” the item. That is, if the craft you want to do would raise the minimum level over your current level, it won’t let you craft on it yet.
So in the example Llama gave, if you’re level 30 and the craft would make it minimum level 31, you can only apply that craft at level 31.

This way you’re never in a situation where you can’t use the item.

Not entirely. If you’re trying to chaos an affix from a “bad” one into a useful one & you get it up to t5 without success then you can still have your item “bricked” because you can’t craft on the affix anymore. Or if you run out of FP & the item doesn’t have the desired affixes.

I meant bricked in the sense that you upgrade it and can’t use it anymore without leveling up first.
