How does Howl of West Wind work?

Specifically the last affix, which grants minions melee lightning dmg based off mine.

Does it just count my global added melee lightning damage? Or the base skill damage + added melee lighning(if the skill is lightning)? Or is it total damage that is lightning and melee (so including % increases)?

And how does that damage get figured into the damage calculation for the minion? Can that portion of damage still be modified by % increases of minion damage?

AFAIK the minion buff considers only Flat ‘added lightning melee damage’ of your character it does not consider the base skill proccing it or anything else. It does not consider % increased or % more lightning damage.

So for example a Crescent axe is very good, the base 28 adaptive damage is not considered, however the +(14 to 28) Lightning melee damage is. If you add a prefix Melee added Lightning damage, that will be considered for the buff but %increased lightning damage does not. It will consider flat melee lightning damage(for your character) from other sources as well such as the Shockfury buff from Storm Totem.

The damage is just given as flat melee lightning damage for the wolves and it will scale with all the increased, more multipliers of the wolf.

I’m wondering if anyone knows how the item interacts with temporary melee damage buffs, such as from Stormhide Paws (Every 3 seconds your next Swipe has 100% of its base damage converted to Lightning and deals +(30 to 45) Melee Lightning Damage)?

Would a temp buff like that count torwards the HWW affix ( chance on hit with Lightning Skills to grant your Wolves additional Melee Lightning Damage equal to your Melee Lightning Damage)? That is, of course, if it was the buffed swipe that procced it.

If so, how would multiple procs of HWW work with different values? Like I proc HWW with a Stormhid Paws buffed hit, then 1 second later proc with a regular hit. Would the second proc override the 1st buff?

From memory the gloves function the same as the lighning node in Swipe & give it the lightning tag while equipped.

Since the buff doesn’t stack, I assume that the better/higher damage proc would replace the lower value proc. But I’ve never tried it so I don’t know.

HWW buff only works off your character’s + melee lightning damage irrespective of the skill that procs it. The +30 to 45 on Stormhide Paws is a skill specific buff and will not work for HWW.

Some examples of temp flat lightning damage buffs that DO work for HWW are Aspect of the Crow from Storm crows, Shockfury and Boardman’s Plank from Storm Totem.

I believe latest proc overrides but its hard to test.

Yes, I just tested this and can confirm: Swipe does get the lightning tag when you equip the Stormhide Paws.

Stormhide paws making swipe lightning wasn’t what I was concerned about. It was about the nature of HHW’s last affix counting temp buffs or not. Golden answerd my question nicely.
