How does area level interact with loot drops? (need help understanding)

Hi, I have been playing for a couple of days, and reached the 62lvl MoF areas, but I don’t really understand how loot drops interact with area level (besides purples, i know those drop on 55+ areas )

Are there higher level bases that have a higher chance to drop the higher you go? Do low level bases stop dropping?
Do you have a higher chance for high tier affix/prefix on loot on higher areas?
Is there a reason to go to the highest area possible?

Thanks in advance

The area level determines the mob level which determines the maximum level of base that can drop and max tier of affixes.

Lower level bases will always be able to drop, higher areas have a higher chance of dropping items with higher tiered affixes (eg, t7 affixes only drop in lvl 90 areas). If you want the best gear, you have to go into the highest areas.

Llama is correct. My only complaint is getting level 33 purples on a regular basis. Its kind of hard to farm purples when the majority are to low level and thusly vendor trash.

That’s a bit different. The item level will be the highest of the item base’s level requirements and whatever the level formula spits out based on the number and tier of affixes (the same formula that tells you whether you can carry on forging on item or not).

So yes, you could probably have a burning branch (lvl 1 wand) drop with a t7 affix and that would be stupid.
