I will start out by saying that I love the new content and am looking forward to the Primal Hunt mechanic. With that being said, so much of the content is 1v1 style engagement (Exile mages, Nemesis, Primal Hunt).
There is nothing wrong with this style of mechanic I would just like to see some horde style mechanics like what PoE does with Harbingers, Abyss, Ambush (really most of PoE’s content is this).
Looking forward to Season 3!
I actually agree greatly.
Some random encounters that spawn a bunch of extra mobs in a “localized area” would also make some echoes feel much more packed.
The post states that this is going to take you to a new zone with new enemies to encounter, which will then be followed by the “Boss”. I feel like this is pretty far detached from either of the previous systems mentioned.
It’s literally the same as tombs, which also take you to a new zone, with new enemies to encounter, which are then followed by a boss. And both have an NPC vendor. The major difference between both is that, AFAIK and from what Mike said on stream, Primal Hunt isn’t a faction.
I like the idea of an enemy burst in a small area, like PoE’s Ritual or Breach, but that kind of mechanic has to always feel optional, because not all builds can handle that. Some builds would simply become overwhelmed and die in seconds.
New cool shit and stuff to do (not mechanics bad choice of wording for some) are always welcome. I requested one from poe today too. Just gotta remember they’ve had over 30 seasons (according to google) and this is season 3 for LE. I guess as much as I most definitely am not patient I need to try be patient and over time things will hopefully grow and get added to with all the cool things we want.
I agree it should be optional, I mean ritual and breach stuff can spawn anywhere but it has to be started so if you can’t roll with it run past. I think people are most content when there is a lot of things to do and they get to choose what they want to spend their time doing rather than being forced to doing it all and sending time doing things they dislike.
I don’t think I’d ever want to see a blight map, seeya FPS lol! Lots of ideas out there fingers crossed the best ones make their way to the round table.
I actually strongly disagree with that statement.
New CONTENT is always welcome. Mechanics without content simply lead to ridiculous power creep and a game looking unnecessarily complicated.
That’s been LE’s problem in recent years, but apparently 1.2 was already better in this respect than 1.0 and 1.1, and 1.3 should bring even more content, so there’s hoping…
Sorry I called it a mechanic rather than content.
let me rephrase - new cool shit to do and interact with in the game. I hope this puts a smile back on your dial young man! Have a cherry ol’ day
Thanks, it does.
Sorry for nitpicking, but I believe it is a very important distinction EHG sometimes fails to see. They have a marked tendency to add not-needed mechanics for no reasons.
Obviously, I agree that having more cool shit to do is great (preferably, using our same good old characters, no need to add factions or mechanics all the time).
That isn’t what I said, “I feel like this is pretty far detached from either of the previous systems mentioned.” Tombs were never mentioned by OP. Is the system similar to Tombs of the Erased? Sort of? Not really. You are interacting more with the new boss and have the ability to tailor it to suit your needs. Furthermore, the Vendors are nothing alike. It’s like saying Apples are the same as Oranges because they are both fruit.
So you are literally describing tombs. Or more precisely, a weaver’s web, where we are free to set it up ourselves.
No, I want more mobs in the areas we already traverse. Not some “extra area” where no regular mobs are.
Also Tombs are not really “surprising extra content”. I am more talking about some stuff you occasionally stumble upon, but you didn’t know beforehand its there.
Then if we would have more than a few different of these encounters they would randomize and spice up each individual echo a little bit and make them more diverse.
I really hate bringing in poe1 but I loved the vaal side random encounters you could enter while levelling/end game where everything was harder but dropped corrupted items. My fav league was one a lot of people apparently didnt like the lake of kalandra or whatever where you’d enter that random mirror/cubey type zone with new mobs and rewards.
I really like your post and I’m super for it. Random encounters are tons of fun and if you can do them whilst levelling and get a few experience levels and random items to help you level then it’s even better than ones just added for end game.
I only have 2 thumbs but they’re both up right now lol
I always really disliked “extra content” that brings you to a seperate room/area (aka Betrayel Lab Encounter, Vaal Side Areas, Harvest, Kalandra, Affliction). The only one fo these types of contents that I never really hated was Incursion, probably because its a very very fast, dense and timed encounter that drops no loot but all the loot at tthe end.
But contrary to that all the content that “spawns on top of your regular content”, so Breach, Legion, , Expedition, Delirum, Abyss, Essence etc. These are great, especially when sometimes you have them overlap with each other and make the gameplay very packed and dense (if your build can handle it).
The type of content where you do something entirely different for example Ancestor, Sanctum, Delve etc is also ok, because that is entirely seperate from your regualr gameplay and is a change of pace. Even though those were never my favorite content I liked doing them every once in a while for some change of gameplayloop.
To got back to LE, what I ideally want (in a couple of major patches hopefully we reach that point).
Going into an echo, not 100% knowing what encounters might await me in there. And then while playing the regular echo, defeat trash mobs, rares and some occasional champions encountering some extra mobs on top that give specialized rewards. EHG does not need to do it exactly the same as poE where each type of content has its own distinct rewards, even though some of that would be ncie as well.
But for example (just a very easy idea). Maybe there can be some Oracle/Diviner-Type mobs protecting a cache of the gods and when you kill all of them the cache automatically opens and a bunch of idols drop from them. Then there could be different kind of caches, some specifically onyl dropping generic idols and not class-specific ones with higher chance for good affix combinations. Some could specifically only drop class-specific idols. And so on.
Then the next encounter might be some friendly npc that you can interact with and there is some lore/story implied to it, where you can help him defeat some mobs he spawns and before they spawn and interacting with him you can determine what kind of loot you get out of it. maybe he’s a blacksmith and you can make the rewards for the encounter specifically 2H exalted axes, or Exalted Body Armors.
Anything that adds on top of the core echo gameplay, without interrupting the gameplay flow too much.
Ohhhh I getcha! I like both so I am ok with whatever it would / might be as long as it is definitely SOMETHING, lol. The more things we have to do and engage with the happier potatoes we are. I love the idea of rare/special loot dropping from things, actually again I am just a huge fan of zillions of items the more the better the more diversity it brings to a game some of my fav games are ones you’ve probably never heard of but man they had some wild ways to upgrade the thousands of items haha! I like the blacksmith idea and maybe he could craft a once off random affix onto your gear that only he can add some special sealed one or something but yeah. Pro for that idea.
I reaaalllyy enjoyed the imperial uprising event they did in 1.1. I gotta say the echoes felt really good to go through, they were quite juicy and a lot of variety
First of all: We get something new! Yay! I’ll play it for the new chapter and I already know that I want to look into some zones we had in the past because there were some “secret zones” you have been able to open back then. Looking for secret stuff ^^.
Class updates are fun as well so maybe some of the changes they implemented make the game richer at best.
Outside of this… let’s see how good the quality is. I can’t tell yet and all I see is powercreep and therefor I won’t play it for long most likely.
To me a hord mode vs a 1:1 mode is not that important. A hord mode can be equaly boring as a 1:1 mode. I just want quality content in the first place. Sure breach in PoE is fun but what will anyone say if we get kind of helltides and 20 mobs spawn in and you walk over them because those are a non issue untill you hit 2000C. Would be a bad league mechanic in my book.
My concern is for the diversity of content the game has to offer. Its not that I view horde style content as better, its just important to have a randomness to the content you will engage with. A healthy mix of stuff that spices up every zone and not just go from a 1v1 to another 1v1 to another one. I also understand (to the point of others) that the new mechanic isn’t just a 1v1, but as Heavy said it doesn’t fill in the zone in the way something like Exiled mages, Nemesis, Strongboxes, Harbingers would.
I’m a bit divided on this. I have normal mobs to plow through and see the occasional 1v1 as you call it as a change of pace from mindless slaughter. Most multi enemie content I’ve seen in the past was either hectic and you needed special setups to it properly or it was so braindead they could’ve left it out completely.
To me an encounter that wakes me up from mindlessly grinding is kind of neat. If I just roll over 50 mobs more I most likely won’t even realize it.
