Is there any difference between hitting F to forge in the field and returning to base and using the forge there? If not, then what’s the point of the base forge?
Nope, no difference.
It provides a focal point for the early quest in the Outcasts Camp that highlights the forge system. It’s also an aesthetic that works given the prevalence of forging gear in this game.
It gives a “real” feeling for the world.

This reminds me of a discussion thread from Jerle some time ago about benches and if we should have access to the crafting panel everywhere or only in towns.
