Hirelings/Companions (D2 Style'ish)

I would like Hirelings in any way shape or form. Like in Diablo 2. I can give them gear, select some talents, maybe some that complement my personal build. :man_shrugging: Many possible routes here.

I am not against the idea, but if they do add Hirelings, I want the choice of taking one or not to be an actual tradeoff, not an auto-include as long as I can keep reviving it like in D2 or D3.

This topic againā€¦

If hirelings give bonuses that are meaningfull and force me to pick a hireling to be effective Iā€™m against it. I play a pet class if I want some wonky AI companion and donā€™t want to be forced into that kind of crap.

If there is an option to disable said companion and get equaly good stats passivly for not having a companion Iā€™m fine with it as long is it is equaly powerfull.

Baseline I hope weā€™ll never get such a crapy mechanic inagme and the devs use their time to work on important things. Itā€™s just a question of taste at the end of the day.

watch the dev stream from yesterday.
there is no plan for this.

this is the best you will get Melvernā€™s Writ

besides,
every time hirelings shoot, they will take away 1 gold and 1 exp :stuck_out_tongue: .

I would not like hirelings in any way, shape, or form. Theyā€™re not interesting or engaging, and offer no effect on gameplay beyond being walking power creep.

thats why some enemies and monolith echoā€™s have ā€œfocus on attacking playersā€ modifiers

also, some people just feel lonely

it would be interesting to see how many/long people sit and talk to their hireling if they gave it ai auto response

Just here to say that Iā€™m fully against this idea. I donā€™t want to be forced to play minion build or lose some power around which the game will be balanced.

oooh ok, thanks for the clarification^^ well then its off the table i assume

I can see companions in this game. It has to be OPTIONAL. And they have to cost a bit of resources to hire and maintain. At best if there are players who want this option, a paid dlc isnt a bad idea there. But this should be in a very very low priority. Though when we do get companions, llike that extra warrior guy, he gets lost in all the minute on the screen and he doesnt seem to have an impact on the game play much. If the idea for companions does come up in a dev. meeting, there would be needing significant work on the game first. The companion addition should be the cherry on the top after development is almost finished for the this game. This game is no state for companions to be added right now. So for the moment, its a no for me. Lets see how this game develops first before we even begin to look at that.

I agree. The companions should be a compactly optional idea. And by no means should even be looked at now. I would even say that that idea should be an optional paid dlc and only AFTER extensive work on the balancing on the game needs to be done. This game currently is in no condition for companions yet.

The d3 system was interesting. The companions there seemed fairly balanced and engaging. However, this game isnt designed for that system currently. Maybe after considerable more work and balance this could be added, but only as a paid dlc. I think now the game is good without them.

No thanks. I donā€™t want a simulated party in an ARPGā€¦ If I want hirelings, Iā€™ll invite my friends to play with me. I would much rather EHG focus on incentivizing party-play with humans, over forcing everyone to use an AI party ā€¦ Unfortunately for ARPG players, they are inclined to optimize everything, itā€™s just in their nature ā€¦ If you add this system, nobody will consider it optional.

Having sufficiently played Diablo 2, I can tell you it would be a very bad experience to have to pay to keep an important NPC at your side.
An actual drawback is that this character takes a skill slot or a certain amount of passive points to be allowed to use. Or, as is currently the case, an item slot, with Melvernā€™s Writ.

No.

No!

NO!!!

This is a very quick step to pay to win, and as such is a horrible idea. No paid DLCs just to get that one mechanic, as it incentivises making them very powerful to sell them.
