This is probably too complex / not enough demand to exist:
Currently:
My online friend doesn’t know English but is playing LE. Right now they’re using a phone app that you use to capture an image of the English text, the app detects text, then comes up with the translation. Needless to say, it’s extremely slow and tedious to do.
A dream would be something like Google Translate built into the game. Everything anyone posts in English will appear in their native language/text somewhere [more on ‘somewhere’ later].
Then the next obvious step, if they could type Japanese, and the game/program automatically translates the Japanese that they type into English for everyone else to read - that would be great!
In principle it sounds simple - Google translates in the game. I KNOW not many people are asking for this. I’m sure there are more people that would enjoy/use this if it were built in. In fact, it might help sales a lot, with foreign speakers (granted many know English pretty well nowadays - maybe not Chinese, etc). Being able to read everything that people are typing is a big feature; and especially since I don’t think many games offer this. Like I said, there probably isn’t much overt demand, but I’m sure it would be welcomed - they just don’t know what they’re missing
Since that is unlikely to happen, or if it does, it won’t happen soon, I’m asking if anyone knows a solution. Yes, I searched the internet a little bit. All I found is the camera snap image translation I talked about in the beginning…
A program would need to read the LE game window, then display it in Japanese (somewhere) somehow. It would probably display in seperate window (not the normal in-game chat box), because it just can’t interface so easy like that; an API or whatever - doesn’t publically exist. In fact, trying it would probably get someone banned for TOS something or another.
Just being able to translate the English would be great, a huge help, halfway there. Better than nothing. Even better would be is if it can work the other way around too, IE: They type Japanese and Google translate (or w/e) will turn it into English for everyone else to read. This part would be relatively simple if you had the first part working.
That’s it, hope it makes sense. Does anyone have any suggestions? All I explained is one idea I had. Maybe there are more ways to do it. Regardless, hope someone has a solution that is better than using the phone’s camera to snap a pic every time they want something translated from chat.
