I bought into early access a while ago, but only really dabbled here and there. In the last few weeks I have spent a fair bit of time playing and have noticed what seems like a (small) area for future improvement regarding health potions on the ground.
TLDR - I think you need to revisit the artwork and coloration of health potions themselves to better standout. The artwork of the potion is often obscured to the point of non-visibility.
In my recent playthroughs, I was noticing that health potion auto-pickup seemed a bit janky. It was clear the intent was to register close proximity to the pot to auto-pickup, which felt fine at times, but sometimes felt required incredible precision. Like, sometime it would pick up at an appropriate distance and sometimes I had to run right down the middle of Health and Potion to pick up.
At first I thought, it just needed a slight loosening of the pickup radius, but after a while of observing inconsistent pickups, I then begin suspecting buggy proximity detection. However, after even more observing I realized that wasn’t it - it was cases where the rendering of the Health Potion text was off from where the pot was. Monitoring for this is what made me realize the true issue - the pot render itself. I realized I’d been playing for weeks without even really seeing the pots themselves, only the text.
So I started paying attention. The current art for potion first of all is not very discernible against many of the ground colors. It is more visible against the lighter ground effects and fairly lost in the darker ones. Even then, it suffers from being occluded by many things - the health potion text itself often obscures the majority of the ground render. Even when the text renders off center and you can see the pot, any other ground effects like gold shimmer or dead enemies often hides it significantly or completely. The only reliable visibility is the text and then you get the perception of jankiness when the text is pushed off a little due to needing to render other text and you can’t actually find the actual pot location.
hope this is helpful. good luck with the rest of the work.
p.s. as a related issue, I think you need to work on pot drop locations during some of the more complex boss fights from an arena shaping perspective - pots regularly seem to drop in non-pickupable locations - see the monolith admiral fight as a good example - the pots kept dropping in some space by the idol I couldnt reach
