Hardcore die go back to softcore cycle or back to standard?

They announced that yet?

HC → SC

Nothing else changes.

Can we petition at least for a brutal message when we die in hardcore ?
Like… “Get wrecked, you dirty noob.”
Or can you just steal the famous death screen of Dark soul ?

On a sidenote, I’m playing the honour mode of BG3 right now. It’s the hardcorest hardcore hardy-hard-hard thing i’ve tried so far. It’s a delight !

Tss tss, you are SO old-fashioned…
Nowadays a “brutal” hardcore message is something like: “Oh no! You are out of HP!!! But don’t worry, you can still revive and keep on adventuring.”
In years to come, I fully expect most games to replace “die” by “lose consciousness”, out of legitimate concern for the players’ mental health.

PS: you are a brave soul! I am still working on my Tactician run, haven’t worked out the courage to try Honour yet…

What’s that?

Basically a new difficulty mode, a sort of ultra tactician. It disables save scumming and you have to complete the whole campaign without dying.

So, Ironman.

Yeah, Ironman in pumped up version of the hard mode. The bosses have new “legendary actions”, which makes some fights much much harder (and different from hard mode).

In a game of that length where a bit of luck is involved, it’s quite the feat.
The steam achievement for completing honour mode is currently at 0.4%

I play often that kind of modes in games (ironman, hardcore, etc.) but I don’t know, this one feels different. I’m always very excited (and scared) to continue the journey.

And the pressure is there; I kinda want to finish it before LE launch :stuck_out_tongue:

Funnily enough, there are already honour mode speedruns under 25mins.

I’m not “that” impressed by glitchy speedruns; even if the method (putting a corpse in a wooden box and burning it) is quite funny.

BUT there is also people doing a full playthrough of honour mode without ever resting, or wearing equipment. Or even more insane : with only 1 hp for each character (with a mod for it; so no achievements… but still all the ruleset of honour mode).

Anyway, sorry for derailing the initial topic. :stuck_out_tongue:
HC FTW !

I think that’s the key, and why it is SO scary.
I usually stop playing any character who dies in LE. Without too much emotion or stress, because I know I can make another one in 20-30 hours, easy.
But in BG3? One run takes me 150 hours, or more, with a lot of emotional involvement in my character and their relationships with others. Losing all that for one misstep is absolutely terrifying.

What items are transfer to SC after death on HC? I guess option 2nd I am wrong?

  1. Only char items without stash
  2. Only stash items without chars
  3. Everything

I’m pretty sure it’s option 1. Your character goes to SC, your stash stays in HC. If you make a new HC character, your previous items are all there.
There used to be an issue (hopefully solved by now) where dying in HC would overwrite your SC stash.
So assuming it’s fixed, your HC stash is for HC characters only and no transfer is made.

Yes, I tested this and only those items equipped or in your inventory are transferred. I actually put things in the character inventory and died on purpose and had those things with me when I became SC.

We all salute your noble sacrifice, soldier!

It’s actually a way to transfer items you want out of your stash from HC to SC. I don’t believe the devs intend for that to be possible and I haven’t done it on the current patch but haven’t seen anything where they changed it.

To be fair, I don’t see how you actually can prevent that. Nor if there is a need to.
There could possibly even be an option that lets us transfer all HC stuff back to SC (as remove-only tabs like you get at cycle end), for the cases where someone is playing HC, finds it’s not for them (for whichever reason, which can include server issues), and just want to continue playing SC forever.

I’m not saying it needs to be prevented, just that I don’t know the devs’ thoughts on it. As for how it can be done, that’s simple (although the execution might not be so much, I don’t know). The items already have a flag when they are equipped, which is why they show up in stats and everything only while equipped. That flag “could” be used for identifying if the item goes with the character from HC to SC upon death.

So it’s possible, but the devs have their thoughts on if they want it that way, and they will have to see how hard it would be to do if they want to.

How would this work, though? You have an item in your inventory. Assuming you want to flag it as HC only, does it simply get lost on death? Does it try to find space in HC stash and it gets lost if there is none? Does it place it in the next HC char inventory you have/create?

The items that are equipped are flagged with “temporary” flags, which only last until the are unequipped. The other items in the inventory do not need to be flagged as only the flagged ones would be transferred to SC with the character. There is no need to flag them as SC or HC.
So only the items the character has equipped move to SC with the character, already equipped.
