Playing hardcore and my main died. I have levelled my next character to level 40, at the Temporal Sanctum, ready to create a legendary weapon, a 1LP Dreamthorn, but all my T6/T7 two-handed swords are missing a prefix or suffix, which I can not craft until level 80. Even if I only want to add T1 anything.
So I have a stash full of items, the majority of which I cannot use for my LP1+ gear, making it basically mandatory I have a crafting character at high level to only be available to craft.
My suggestion would be change the Crafting level requirement to Tiers of the craft, for example:
T1: Level 1 | T2: Level 10 | T3: 30 | T4: 40 | T5: 50
This would allow me to fill the affixes 4/4, even if the level requirement to equip the item is still level 80, I can use it in the Eternity Cache.
Thanks!
I understand your issue but this is something more of a skill issue. If you were paying attention on what you actually need for the legendary then you would not have been in this situation. I understand how much it sucks but yeah…pretty much your fault here. Happens and at least you can use the dreamthorn as it is for now.
Let me phrase it differently then: Why do we have to be level 80 to craft +1 INT on an item, just because the Level requirement to equip it is level 80?
Regardless of my skill, or lack thereof, in planning future characters, this suggestion is based on quality of life.
This was done so that people that are crafting as they level up don’t end up crafting something that doesn’t let them use the item anymore.
Usually, when you want to make twink gear, or just slam that into lower level uniques, you use the higher level character to do that.

That is fair, but still applies to my suggestion, if you are lower than level 50, you can not upgrade an affix to T5. But a T1 craft on a level 80 item should have no impact to the level requirement, its T1.
Yeah, I have played hardcore since launch, and this is the first time it stood out to me, so I made a post, as I could not find any others. I understand this is very low hanging fruit, but feedback is feedback.
I wasn’t saying you shouldn’t have posted it or anything like that. I respect your feedback.
I was just pointing out the most likely reason for not letting you craft on an item when the resulting level is above you.
Code-wise, it’s easier to simply check if the resulting level is less than or equal to the character level than to check if the level changes or not.
Maybe there could be an option in the settings that would let us craft on higher level gear? That way, if you already know your way around the game and want to risk this happening, you can turn it on and craft to your heart’s content.
I could even see a simple use case where this would be a benefit:
You’re playing with an alt, a higher level exalt drops that would be good for your higher level main character and you just want to craft it right away and see if it turns out good or not. That way it either succeeds and you save it in the stash or it fails and you immediately dump it.
There’s no need to switch characters just to try it out.

That is a great point I did not think of. I think even a pop up box to confirm you are crafting an item above your character level would be an option too.
