Harbinger bosses are annoying to fight

Started as Totem Shaman, rerolled to Glacier Sorcerer (SAF) after 2 Harbingers.
Dont like new bosses, its annoying even for Meta build in SSF. I have 93lv and have fun doing cycle content…
Harbinger should be equal power to boss, just fighting 2 bosses in row is impediment.
I want just Hack&Slash after work, bring back Veteran Mode and make streamer or whatever you want suffer.

The Harbingers are - by good design - made stronger then the Boss because they represent the next step after the boss and a new part of the journey for the character.

No, it shouldn’t just be a second boss at the same strength.

Also starting with empowered Monoliths you can choose if you want to engage the Harbinger or not.

If u per new journey mean play Static Orb so yeah…
Its so fun listen Come, Sons of Artor over 1min fighting very easy boss then be 1shotted by Harbinger melee attack. Such fun!
It’s terrible design nothing more.

I killed my first Harbinger by proving to someone that a spellblade has absolutely no issues reaching empowered monoliths, like every single other class in the game.

It was at the time level 71, had randomly thrown in passive points since I decided to go another direction with the build by finding a decent unique, so a good 10 points were utterly useless, my gear was god-awful, I had a belt with 2 affixes since it had cleansing on it, my resistances were between 15 and 60 across the board and I simply spammed mana strike.

That’s how I killed my first harbinger.

If you need a Static Orb build to achieve that then it’s not the build at fault bit your skill/experience. Harbingers hit harder then the boss but are generally easier to handle since their mechanics are even more static then the timeline bosses. The exception is Lagon’s Harbinger which is just a menace.

Where I said thay are unbeatable?
They are annyoing as hell, fast hitting attack do way too much damage. (Lagon Harbinger is good example, its not hard on low corruption with good sustain but…).
Lets be honest u have enough damage to “skip” a Harbinger or u skip Harbinger.
Fighting them is not fun.

Well, then to be fair… turn em off? That’s why the option is there.

If you simply want Hack’n’Slash and not bother with the bosses then just… well… don’t do the bosses.

The common running of the content is entirely different for people then doing mechanical bosses. There’s a big chunk of players which do enjoy the boss-fights especially, and the Harbingers are actually a newer and better implemented version of what the timeline bosses were, you can see how EHG improved their design over time.

While timeline bosses are very static in their behavior the Harbingers mix up their attack patterns, which makes them seem much more dynamic and faster-paced without being overwhelming.

And no, you absolutely don’t need to have high defenses or high damage, outside of a few examples (like the one at Lagon, that one simply sucks, agreed) you can literally avoid every single dangerous attack they throw.
They’re a decent fight for a change.
And you don’t even need good sustain on Lagon’s Harbinger, as long as you can survive a single hit he’s utterly fine. Just a bit more technical.

Timeline bosses are too static. Dungeon bosses can be a bit too chaotic (outside Julra, Julra is a surprisingly well designed boss), Harbingers are a good middle ground.

Yes i just want chill farm, but not doing them is missing out content.
Remove them form farming route, make Itemized (like Aberroth) for diffrent bossing character?

There’s a even bigger chunk of players which don’t enjoy forced the boss-fights (why forced? becouse U missing drops)

That’s exactly why they’re annoying to play. Its just my take. Also Hated Jura T4 when come out power creep was make that fight fine.

However, I think that two opinions can be reconciled. It bores me that I have to defeat the main boss of the monolith every time to be able to fight Henbinger. I think it’s a pain and a waste of time. For example, with 5 attempts to kill Harbinger, the route takes a total of 25 minutes for first boss. I would change that so that it would be possible to include only Harbinger

So?
Pick your poison.
Want to put effort into something and get ‘more reward’ out of it?
Or just want to have fun and relax?

You can’t have both :stuck_out_tongue:
And for people which of those is the actual ‘fun’ can be switched around. Some dislike running monoliths but want mostly the boss-fights, others hate the fights and want mostly to casually run and relax (I’m leaning to the second in general personally for example).

What I’ll overall give you though is that a improvement would be to actively itemize the bosses so it’s player agency of when to do it.
Wanna collect 50 before doing them? Go ahead! Want to do it right away? Go ahead! You played up and earned ‘50 tries’.

First of all… forced is ‘you have to do it or you can’t play on’.
What you’re talking about is FOMO, which is another - but also important - topic.

There’s measures to ease the mind of people that they’re not ‘missing out’ though, and those are viable directions to go.
Outright saying ‘but these bosses shouldn’t exist’ because you want to avoid FOMO is not viable, especially not when they’re quality-wise better done then what we have in the game anywhere else for the moment.

That for example is also a good thing, to not have Harbingers spawn based on the boss.
But EHG positioned them this way for lore and also as a added difficulty (you basically loose the loot of the boss if you don’t kill the Harbinger and have to do it again) and hence it ‘fits’ the position.

Rather have them itemized overall, would make it a player choice ‘I want one boss+harbi item please’ or ‘I want 1 boss fight item please’.
