Handling +X to Skill levels when unequipping

Hello,

Im fairly new so there could be something I’ve overlooked here but I’ve found a few chests with +1 to . At a later point I swapped it to another chest without this affix whilst leveling;

It wasn’t completely clear to me how the extra skillpoint is removed from talent tree at that point. It seemed to be one removed at random?

For my bladedancer this removed my “Dancing Shadow” node in Shift, which you can imagine was pretty central aspect of my build. I tried to respec a point from another part of the tree to restore it, but since the skill did not have a high minimum level, I didn’t actually get to spend that skill point to reclaim the “Dancing Shadow”. The whole situation became a bit awkward.

Similarly I got a chest with Rive on my Sentinel, the first time I removed it it removed a point from my AOE node, the second time it removed my 100% crit on third strike node.
Whilst when I got the extra point I used it on a travel node or something of the sort.

Since many of these nodes are build defining and you can’t simply remove a point from somewhere else to cover - it seems perhaps a better way to handle this is in order e.g. always remove the point that was added with +1 or make the skill unuseable until the player has chosen one to remove or I don’t know!

I guess the workaround for this is to always wait until you level up and then remove the item before you spend your point.

They have an algorithm that determines which node to remove the points from a skill tree based on the skill tree to avoid any “edge cases” which would allow one to respec a skill tree by equipping & removing the item.
