After playing D4 for 90 hours, it was apparent that all the little bad design choices they made, together adds up to a lot of annoyances & not fun gameplay. However there are 2 exceptions that were designed well: POTIONS & GOLD.
I think LE needs to update these 2 things to make the game more fun & less annoying/disheartening.
1. GOLD - the gold drop rate makes you feel horrible. Seriously, at level 50 seeing drops in the single digits, e.g. 1 GOLD, is such a terrible feeling it makes you angry. True there isnāt much use for gold atm except for inventory purchase; but that doesnāt matter. The important thing is if the gameplay feels good. Seeing such low gold #s feels bad, real bad.
2. POTIONS - I love the potion system in D4. Itās fun to be able to upgrade your potions &
most IMPORTANTLY, to be able to stack much more than we currently do. Currently, having potions of 3-4 in the vast majority of gameplay feels really really bad.
THE LITTLE THINGS DO MATTER because over time they are meaningful & contribute to the fun factor of the game.
So there are a couple of things Iād like to address, and hope you donāt take offense as itās only meant to further the conversation with good understanding.
Thereās actually more to do with gold, and yes stash tabs and respec are a small amount in the grand scheme of thigs.
There are also dungeons which Lightless Arbor is a major gold sink. You can spend 12M gold in there in a single run, so stock it up.
I do agree though that when you have a lot of gold and you drop single-digit stacks itās not very exciting, but Iām not sure how I would handle it if I were the devs as itās easy to say ājust ignore those small stacks and move onā but might look odd to others that every mob has at least 100+ gold.
As for potions, well, LE has a different take on this than other games and it is the way it is for a reason. Unlike in other games, potions can give you some big short-term boosts and if your belt isnāt full then they drop very frequently (more so than normal which is already decent).
Thx for the comments Travoas. Very true about dungeon gold sink. Iām sure more gold use will be implemented over time. That is why my concern is extremely valid. It is not FUN to get such extremely low gold drops. Not gonna disagree about potions, but itās not as fun as in D4.
This game is so good I want the little things to be fun & not feel bad⦠Then again gold is not really a little thing as such one may argue.
I agree with the potion thing. More because when you use it, it is just a quick burst of healing, which isnāt very useful at higher levels when you have great regen/leech/ward
What ābig short-term boostā are you talking about here? You mean the pitiful healing they provide? And 550 at lvl 100 IS pitiful when you consider that you want to have 2-4k hp thereā¦
Those boosts come from items and other things, the potions themselves do not change. There is an affix (prefix) that can be added to belts, gloves, relics, and rings that convert potion health to ward. These are the type of things to look for.
Just looked in my stash and Exsanguinous gives a boost to Attack Speed, Cast Speed, and Movement Speed if youāve used a potion in the past 4 seconds.
550 health for 2000 is 25%. I wouldnāt call that a small boost. And since you have 3, 4 or 5 potions without cd you can chug up 75,100 or 125% of your health pool.
Even with 4000hp. Itās still 37.5% to 62.5%.
I mean thatās pretty nice number. If my boss offer me a 37. 5% raise Iāll take it.
I got distracted and never got to respond to this post, but I agree with a lot of what was said here in response.
Iād add the additional thought that being able to upgrade potions as its own item / slot rather than a specific bonus you have to balance against other things would make all characters play more the same than they currently do, which is never what you want in a class based game. You want every class to specialize and do different things so that they feel like different ways to play the game, even though when you get down to it, what theyāre accomplishing is fundamentally equivalent.
As far as getting more potions goes, Iāve never had an issue with this. The classes that need to use them the most have ways of getting more of them. Thereās even equipment bonuses that make them drop more frequently.
i donāt even look at gold drops because they donāt matter to me at all. As soon as I have 3 stash tabs for a newly made toon Iām good to go and stockpile stupid ammounts of gold. Gold is simply more rare then in D4 where rerolling items almost instantly costs 1 mill gold after pressing the button 4 times. With such stupid prices they need stupid ammount of gold drops. LE isnāt in need of such inflated drops because everything is either cheap or stuff you donāt need that is nice to have like rolling in the dungeon.
The potion system in D4 is stupid. Collect mats and get more potent potions and play more content to get more potion slots. In LE you can craft potion slots or more potent pots whenever you want (and have the mats) on your gear. No need to make it a useless gated thing like in D4 where everyone and their grandma had the mats to increase their pots hours upon hours before the needed level⦠thx but no thx!
There are big glaring issues that needs to be adressed and from my point of view those two are of little to none importance.
You can have ward, dodge and whatnot on your potion in LE what makes thm instantly more versitile then the HP pots in D4.
Gold is incredibly easy to get, especially once you are level 60 it becomes almost impossible to run out thru regular play⦠Just sell gear you dont need, and run monos to get gold.
You can stack potions pretty high, atleast over 5 pots and when you step on a potion that you cant pick up, your guy automatically drinks it (something D4 does not do!). So you dont need more than a few potions, they get used automatically when you step on them at full stack and not full HP.
That massively depends on how many stash tabs (or shatter runes) you buy. If you donāt spend then yes, youāll have lots of cash. Kinda obvious really. The opposite is also rather obvious.
