Literally every character that hits end game has to spec into 100% glancing blow to survive, and that isn’t good game design.
It feels like this affix is not a choice, but a requirement. If you’re below 100% you’re going to get one shot, the only choice is what gear you put glancing blow on…
I think the game would be more fun and have better build variety if Glancing Blow got the cut. The developers could just reduce damage by half across the game (or just on bosses) and let us make more interesting choices with our gear.
it’s exactly the same design as the resistances in other ARPG. I actually like it. It feels nice to think that you just made your character ready for end game. Kinda like PoE with resistances before mapping.
I think it’s mandatory to have something like that, because of the way resistance work in the game (just adding their flat number as extra health for the element concerned) I’m pretty sure some build can just decide to not use them. (because having enough block, EHP etc.)
It’s a simple gear check before end game, and i like to take time and craft a bit. There is no better timing than the very start of end game to get involved with some gear improvement.
However, i don’t think Glancing Blow should be needed to finish the story.
I really like having hard- and softcaps in aRPG’s.
As he already mentioned, GB is filling the same purpose like resistances in similar rpg’s.
But you do have a clear goal to reach before endgame.
On top of that there are so many ways to get 100% GB, via uniques, set affixes or normal affixes.
Normal affixes for GB are pretty meh if not useless.
Only reason I’d use them is if I equip woven flesh, to take care of the remaining 15% GB. Otherwise set affixes are always superior in my opinion, as their are prefixes and doesn’t lock several suffixes slot needed to get good resistances.
The devs have said that they want Glancing Blow to be an “affix tax”.
There have been many requests/suggestions to remove glancing blow & they all present the same idea, “just remove glancing blow & halve the damage mobs do”…
I agree, i haven’t talked about balancing, but that is not the topic here.
There could be indeed better balancing of the normal glancing blow affixes, either increasing their numerical value or maybe make them a 2 stat affix like “X% GB + Y to all protections”
