Why try to be something else? There is room for one more arpg with its own specificities, LE does not have to be “the next PoE” or “The next Grim Dawn”. LE has what is requires to create a new spot and be “Last Epoch”, a new reference in the genre.
Yea that s nice but the question boils down to : will it try to be a massive MP experience or a SP experience with some MP ?
Welcome! Glad you’re enjoying the game
But since when was POE known for MP?
Since you basically have to trade or dedicate every single hour of your life to drop certain items (when long time i ve not played PoE, but was def like that some years ago. Still have nightmare about dropping shavronne s wrapping if i remember it correctly)
i’d say closer to poe, with support for playing however the player likes. poe can be played MP, or SP with trading, or SP without trading. things have changed a bit since you last played poe, and lots of people play SSF (solo-self found, no trading or partying with others). it’s a challenge to play this way but with things like harvest enabling crafting, it’s a lot easier than it used to be (unless you want a very specific unique, which is still a grind).
we have yet to see what MP will bring to LE, but i expect it to be much the same: an option for those who want it, but not necessary to enjoy the game. and we also have solo mode (even more restrictive than poe’s SSF, which allows all SSF characters to share a stash, solo in LE is limited to only what that character finds) for people who want the challenge. i’ve also seen some positive comments from devs that suggest they will be open to allowing mods for offline play (obviously those characters can never interact with online to preserve the competitive nature of the ladders), but that will undoubtedly be something they consider after launch.
i personally don’t really enjoy MP, but i will be playing SP online so i can engage with trading.
in that sense LE will be better, because according to KS page, items will be devided to different groups. Free trade, limited trade and no trade. Free trade are items that can be traded any amount of times, limited trade are items that can be traded some amount of time before they’re bound to last player, and items that can’t be traded at all. Allowing devs to not balance game just around Market, so rare items will be more or less reasonable to get yourself.
It may not be known for MP for content, but since PoE has persistent servers and a persistent economy, it’s automatically put into that category. To me that implies a huge difference because content/items/currency/skills all have to be balanced completely differently compared to a single player focus game like Grim Dawn.
So… to answer the original question, it appears LE is going the PoE -ish route, and will hopefully end up being even more enjoyable for many players.
