Game randomly crashes when loading monolith maps

Hey guys,

I have been experiencing this (as you might imagine, very annoying) bug where more often than not the game completely crashes when loading a monolith map. The crash happens right after the map loads, the game freezes and then crash. It’s frustrating since it counts as a monilith death, so I’m constantly losing progress on that game system, to the point I’m considering quit playing.

I fiddled with the graphic settings a little but no luck so far. I’ve been running the game on maximized window.

Log file attached.

Thanks.

Hey, Welcome to the forums…

You dont provide your system spec and in-game settings so I’ll have to guess…

LE is in beta so crashes do happen… Thankfully there are quite a few things to try that have worked for others…

Did you read the other crashing posts in the Technical section? Not sure what you mean by fiddling with the graphics but that is one of the ways to address the stability issues…

Here are some things to try:

  1. If you are using Steam, then verify the game files - corrupted file do happen sometimes (especially when the game crashes) and its best to verify things else you are just likely to keep getting crashes.

  2. Graphics play a big part in the stability of the game - especially as its still in beta… You need to be quite logical to find the best and most stable settings for your specific setup… Here is a basic process to follow

    • Temporarily set your in-game settings to 1080p, 60fps foreground frame limited (not vsync) and set every graphic setting to very low or disabled.
    • Test if this configuration is stable… If it is, continue… If its not, then you have another problem that may not be related to graphics.
    • Increase the resolution to whatever you want to play at and that your spec can handle. Test again.
    • If this is stable, then increase the FPS to an appropriate rate (i.e. your monitor speed or less). Do NOT leave LE unlimited. Test again.
    • If this is stable, then increase the in-game graphics settings testing between each change… It is currently not recommended to go above Medium if you are having stability problems and even if you are not, then with your 1070, I wouldnt go any higher anyway - its simply not worth it for now.
  3. If the base graphics option did not improve the crashing/stability… Then you need to try other things…

    • Make sure that your system is patched and has updated drivers for everything including graphics.
    • Disable any overlays (Steam overlay, Nvidia etc) and close any apps that you may be running while you are playing the game.
    • Make sure that your system is not reporting general errors that point to something not right indepenantly of LE
    • Make sure your system is physically ok… i.e. no overheating, proper cooling, memory not causing problems etc.

Without your info, thats about all the things I can offer… Most people are able to fix the stability with one or more of the changes above.

Thanks for the reply.

Added the dxdiag log and the graphic.ini file for further inspection. Any thoughts considering their content?

le_graphicsmanager.ini (483 Bytes)
DxDiag.txt (121.4 KB)

About the proposed troubleshooting: all those steps (files integrity check, suggested graphics config and general system status) were covered and the crashes keep happening (that’s why I created a new post).

Thanks.

Ok…

So what you are saying is that even the base graphics option (exactly as above 1080p/60fps limited. everything on very low & disabled) still made the game crash when loading in MoF maps…?

If that is true then there is something else happening on your system…

Looking at your le_graphicsmanager.ini - it is showing that you are not frame limiting - the LimitForegroundFPS = false… This must be set to true - LE can max out a GPU if you dont which is not good for stability & thermals… If you didnt do this for the graphics process I outlined above, then I’d suggest you try agian…

Your processor is reporting a clock speed of 4.1Ghz and the spec says that it 3.6ghz base with a single core boost to 4.4. Are you overclocking your CPU? What kinds of usage and thermals are you experiencing? LE in this current state doesnt play nice with overclocked systems - especially systems that are overclocked into the redline…

From your dxdiag, I see that you are running a dual monitor setup with one 1080p on 60hz and one 2160p on 30Hz (odd)?.. Thats a lot of combined pixels for your 1070 to handle even assuming that you play LE only on the 1080p one… What kind of GPU usage & thermals are you getting normally (i.e. normal use browsing, watching youtube etc) vs when playing LE? Are you also overclocking your GPU?

LE generally tries to eat up as much resources as it can, CPU, GPU & memory and can cause things to max out / draw more power / overheat - the only way around this currently is to be conservative with the settings.

There are a few errors in the diagnostic section of the DXDiag (bottom)…
Lastepoch.exe but also HitFilmExpress.exe, MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe… You may want to check and see if these point to something on your system that needs to be checked…

Are you sure your are not running anything else at the same time that you are playing LE?
