Game not responding after zoning into Liath's Road

Howdy,

I’ve encountered a bug where my game will stop responding (it never fully crashes) when my newest bladedancer enters Liath’s Road. When I first entered this zone, everything was ok; however, when I completed Liath’s Tower, the game froze upon re-entering Liath’s road. Since then, simply taking the waypoint from the End Of Time to Liath’s Road will freeze the game (although out of about 5 or 6 attempts, one time I made it to Thetima, but the game froze upon entering).

This only happens on one specific character. My other characters can enter the zone.

The only zone affected at the moment is Liath’s Road. For example, I can zone into Lake Liath on the buggy character just fine.

I encountered a similar bug with Ruins of Welryn on another character a month or so back. The game would freeze only when that one specific character entered the zone. It wasnb’t a big deal since he was only level 10 or so, but I’m a bit more frustrated to lose my lvl 47 character  .

Attached is my log dxd log:

UPDATE: I was able to zone into Liath’s Road from Liath’s lake and make it to Thetima with no freezes. So, fortunately, I am unblocked. That being said, I could not unblock my previous character this way. I had to start over.,

Have you tried unplugging your speakers/headphones when the game hangs? There’s a known issue with windows that is “resolved” by unplugging the sound device and plugging it back in again.

I have not. I can try that if it happens again.

Hey, Welcome to the forums…

Some things:

  1. Update your graphics card driver - there is a newer version available.

  2. Verify the Steam game files - they can and do get corrupted

  3. Disable any overlay (Steam/Nvidia etc) and do not run any other applications while playing.

  4. You didnt provide your in-game config files so I cannot see what settings you are using but certain graphic configs can also make the game unstable - eg. running graphics quality on Ultra. Try the following - temporarily set your in-game settings to 1080p, 60fps framerate limited (not vsync) with all graphics quality settings to very low or disabled… Test for stability… If its ok and doesnt crash loading the maps then based on your hardware in Dxdiag, leave the resolution on 1080p, framerate limit on 60fps and increase the in-game graphics settings one by one testing between… I wouldnt recommend going higher than Medium on any setting with your setup as Higher settings tend to affect stability exponentially.

Thanks for the response. I’ve updated the original post with the config, but my settings are all defaults, and, IMO quite low given the hardware I have.

I had updated my drivers after posting, and I still saw the issue. I’ve since then encountered an instance the problem when entering a monolith this morning.

I don’t use any overlays, and the steam files are up to date. Can you clarify what you mean by “don’t run any other applications while playing”. Unless you’re talking about extensions specific to LE (I don’t), this neither seems possible nor a reasonable suggestion for any desktop application.

It doesnt matter what hardware you have - LE is in beta and has lots of performance related instability - even players with monster systems (5900X AMDs with 3080+ GPUs) dont use the game on Ultra settings at high resolutions even tho their hardware should be able to do so… The rule of thumb is that if you are having stability issues that you tone things back until the devs can address things specifically (not just as side note on their content updates)…

As an example, I run a i5-7500 with a 1060 @ 1080p and if I let the game run unlimited with medium or high settings, memory usage jumps to 12gb+, the GPU maxes out to 100%, gets too hot and I experience large lag spikes of 40 fps and occassional crashes… However, if I set the framerate limits to 60fps, all settings on very low or low the game is 100% stable and uses less than 10GB ram, the Gpu doesnt go above 60-70% and lag spikes are far less pronounced…

Things from your added information:

  1. In the game ini (thanks for including it), it shows that you are running everything on Medium (with other things higher like grass) and you are not using the recommended Frame rate limits - Did you attempt suggestion 4 above? You may think its there is no point in trying the steps but I can assure you that LOTs of people having hassles just like yours have been able to solve thier problems by following those steps. As an example, just limiting the framerate prevents LE from maxing out the GPU and unlimited FPS causes even new GPUS to crash the game.

  2. Dont run other applications - while you are trying to resolve the instability its important to make sure that nothing else running is potentially conflicting with LE… Some players have found that things that are totally unrelated - Like Citrix & Teamviewer - cause problems with the Unity engine that LE is built on… Anything that hogs system resources or processing time can cause issues - some people that use a browser at the same time (especially open on pages that require a lot of memory or hardware based GPU features) can cause problems after a while, Anything that adds to the GPU usage is also not great as LE tries to take as much as it can. So the general purpose of this is to eliminate any other causes of the instability…
