Hello, I posted this on Steam as I forgot I had created an account to login, just copy/pasting as it may be more relevant in this forum, thanks
My Last Epoch feedback:
• I played 92h according to Steam, multiple characters & classes, one up to 80 before I stopped after some interface issues for probably the hundredth time - the reason why I write this feedback
• Maybe a lot of issues I have are related to the fact I use a key to move - but I use this in all the games when it’s possible
• I’m not sure everybody will agree but that’s the way I play ARpgs & Hack’n’Slashes (and spend many more hours than reasonable ;))
• Very Very Annoying: Portals (I’ll call that all zone changing interactions) MUST to be on click, I made way to many map transitions by mistake, much more than the number of bosses I killed, and when it is a waypoint it open a big interface in your face but the game is not paused - this should only happen if I make a clear click on the ‘portal’. Afaik neither D3 nor PoE nor Grim Dawn nor Torchlight nor VanHelsing allow you to change zone if you don’t click on a portal.
- Test Case: use a key to move your char, put your mouse around a ‘portal’, move around → you’ll change zone by mistake, not when the portals are at the end of corridors obviously but in other cases they are easy to hover with the mouse
• Very Annoying: mouse cursor and inventory interactions lag need to be fixed: I did way to many click-drag-drop with the wrong item (which never happened in any arpg I played), or nothing if the near cell was empty, and the cursor that is supposed to be interacting with the inventory is then interacting with the ground or npcs - this should not change context (if I click on the ground, it should follow the ground even if I open my inventory and the cursor is now over the inventory page, & same for opposite: a click-hold in my inventory should then not interact with whatever is in the 3D world (open your inventory & the forge and move an item when a npc is in the middle in the screen to see what I mean) - overall no context change once you click somewhere and hold, it stays in inventory or 3D) - again I made much more mistakes like this than my boss count
- Test Case: open the inventory, left-click & hold on an empty cell then move your pointer inside the 3D view → your char start to move, it should not as long as you hold the left mouse button
- Same, hover over a NPC → it trigger the npc interaction
- In inventory, click and move your mouse (like to forge menu) → you can select the item beside (I tried this on PoE, I even tried moving my mouse around pretty quickly and try to ‘grab’ a specific item on the fly and I never failed - when I fail almost all the time in Last Epoch)
- with mouse in 3D view hold the key to move, open the inventory, move the pointer over the inventory → you stop moving, you should not (pointer here should still give you the move direction)
• Annoying: I had way to many stuck character happening, this is not fun (may be related to the fact I play with a keypress to move and not left click, but I play like that in D3 and other games and never had issues), the skill interaction with breakables half the time make your character do nothing (ex is trying to use a move toward a destructible that does nothing, or being right beside it and attacking do nothing), most of the time I had to release my move key to get back the controls.
- I found no systematic way to reproduce, but moving around and having the mouse over breakables and pushing skills that don’t trigger is quite common
• Bug(?):
- Move skills that need a target do not work on bosses that are outside the map, which is not nice as we can’t get the buffs/side effects of these skills
- Test Case: try to use Lunge on Lagon & other worm-like bosses - it fails
• Minor Suggestion (but UX improvement nonetheless): some ‘stacking charges’ CDs need to show the CD for the shortest and not the longest charge so you know when to refresh to keep your stacks
- Test Case: cast Sigils of Hope, see the stacks & the cooldown → you don’t know when the first charge will expire but you would if the gauge where showing the shortest time left
• The game systems look good, I like the ‘slow’ pace of the game compared to PoE or D3 (which make it more accessible) and the progression system, I can definitely see myself exploring many chars & builds, but the 3Cs of the core loop (Character/Control/Camera → here the navigation/combat & inventory management) need to be flawless (I’d probably rate the game 60% actually with the flaws, 85%+ without)
Thanks, I hope to can come back & enjoy the game at release
