Game Crash on Startup and on Login

Hello, I decided to return to the game after some time to play the new content, but my game keeps crashing.

At first, the game would crash on the first Splash Screen, and after looking for solutions online, I tried repairing game files through Steam, updating drivers, but no success. Then I tried running the LastEpoch.exe on Windows 7 Compatibility Mode, and finally got to pass the Splash Screen and get to the Login Screen.

I then opened the Game Settings and set every graphical setting to the lowest, to make sure there was no problem on the graphical side, and proceeded to login to the game, and then it crashed again.

So now, I can get to the login screen running the game on Compatibility Mode, but the moment I reach the login screen, the game tries to connect me and crashes.

Here are all the logs and files I could gather with the help from the LE Support page:
DxDiag.txt (42.9 KB)
error.log (48.3 KB)
le_graphicsmanager.ini (527 Bytes)
Player.log (32.4 KB)
Player-prev.log (33.0 KB)

Hey, Welcome to the forums…

Sorry you are having these issues…

You mentioned that you returned to the game to try and play after some time… I am assuming that you skipped a patch update or two during this time?

Here is something to try…

  1. Backup the last epoch folder in Appdata
  2. Delete the folder
  3. Verify the files with Steam
  4. Start the game again

This should cause LE to reset and if there is anything wrong with the savegames etc, it might load up with defaults… If it does, then it probably is something wrong with your savegames (or some other file) from the older version and when the newly patched version tries to load it, it crashes…

If that doesnt work then you may have to try something else…

On a side note: Windows 7 being so old and now officially out of Microsoft support might be playing into whatever is causing this problem… Your using Windows 7 compatibility mode and getting further makes me wonder… I know LE indicated that Windows 7 is the minimum OS requirement but I am always wary of Windows 7 with newly released apps and games - things never seem to work out even if devs think it should.

Thank you so much for helping out, but even with these steps the crashing on trying to connect to the game still happens. Probably something with my PC, so nothing I can do right now to solve the issue, but whenever I get the chance to upgrade my Windows, I’ll try again to play the game. Cheers.

Hey… one last thing before you give up…

There was a big patch on Monday and 2 hotfixes - make sure you verify your games files one last time to see if that will get you into the game…

Hey there, I’m experiencing the same problem as @Arthoumadbro. Sometimes it crashes, othertimes it freezes. I don’t get a error msg.

here’s a quick rundown of my prob:

I purchased LE yesterday via steam and have not been able to play unfortunately. After I launch the game I get to the login screen, where it tries to login for a second, then stops and all I get is a ā€œswitch userā€ button. However at this point the game is frozen and I cant click on anything. I then need to use task manager or alt f4 to close the game.

Here is what I’ve tried so far

  • Verify integrity of game files on steam
  • backup LE folder in appdata
  • un- and reinstall the most recent graphics driver
  • check for newest windows update
  • try ā€œLaunch as adminā€ and different Compatibility modes. Win 8 sometimes gets me a few more seconds on the login, before it freezes (I’m using win10 normally)
  • launch the game from folder rather than from steam

I can’t send you a error file, since it doesn’t really crash but rather freeze, and there is no LE folder in appdata/local yet.

I noticed, that the directory for Eleventh Hour Games is in appdata/LocalLow, rather then appdata/local.

I’ll send you all the files I can gather tho. I hope you can help me, I’d love to play the game :stuck_out_tongue:

DxDiag.txt (132.8 KB)
le_graphicsmanager.ini (489 Bytes)
Player.log (10.0 KB)

Any help is appreciated  Cheers!

Update: so I did some more testing and digging, uninstalling and reinstalling various drivers, but nothing seemed to help. So now I can’t point out to what it was, maybe the new Nvidia driver from June 3rd, maybe just my impatience, but for me, the game lags out after starting for like 5 minutes straight, task manager telling me there is no response from it, then - it just works.
Setting compatibility to Win8 definitely helped tho from having the game crash…
