Future of LE

So first of all I would like to say that I am not up to date with dev talks and such so if this was something that was discussed already I do not know.

The thought just crossed my mind on…what will the future of the game be based on its skills?
What I mean is how is the game gonna still feel fresh in a few years lets say since the skills even though have some variety to them they are at the end of the day kind of few in total.

I am currently comparing LE to PoE 1/Diablo 4 and PoE has a lot of skills in it and they still add some from time to time. Diablo is “fixing” that by adding new effects to your skills or new skills through their seasonal content for a while now.

I ask this because I wonder if a few years later I am gonna be like “Oh yeah the total dmg of the fireball has been buffed again so now that is gonna be the meta and even if I do not play it I have already played the druid x build the acolyte x build and such 10 times already” especially since this game is easy when it comes to picking up a new build and give it a try it. Even better at having a nice variety of builds that can perform decent even if many cannot reach fighting Ubberoth which is totally fine by me.

So yeah based on that idea what is it gonna be? Adding new skills somehow? Taking the D4 path and add enhancements to them or? Do not get me wrong I can totally understand and see how you can keep the game alive just through sheer content being added to it but how will build variety change in the long run?

That is all. Thanks for reading my 3 am thoughts.

There are still missing skills for some masteries/classes.
What I understand from Mike’s answers on stream is that they’re currently reworking classes for balance and to add the missing skills.

Then, once all classes have about the same skills and are somewhat balanced/reworked, they’ll start adding new masteries. This will increase the number of available skills as well as refresh the “newness” by having brand new skills to play with.

Once they’ve added a bunch of masteries, the plan is a new class (which should already come with a bunch of masteries).

Thats cool. Cant wait to see what new classes and masteries they will bring in the long run. Also yeah some skills do need some love. Not even close but I am already excited for s3 lol.

There was also a teaser about “skill sigils” in the works, that is supposed to do something to current skills, but all i know is just a picture on old roadmap  Season 3 or 4 or later? i don’t know, but somehow i feel it’s going to come before new masteries and classes.

One thing I also forgot is that they keep adding uniques that add new transformations to existing skills, like the mana focus amulet. So that is also a fresh source of “new” skills that can be explored and that create new builds.

2030? 2035? :stuck_out_tongue:

I mean… with what EHG has shown for the moment that seems faaaaar off. We got so soooo many ‘unpolished’ or even unfinished sections in the game it’s actually a bit baffling. Not those which work well and just need to be expanded upon… but those which are actual issues simply by going forward.

The missing skills.
Balance of classes.
Balance of the campaign.
Missing Acts in the Campaign.
Coming with that a re-work of end-game progression since normal Monoliths will be severely underleveled by that time.
Dungeons are still not handled, just band-aid fixed.
CoF streamlining since it’s overengineered UI-wise.
MG fixing since it’s still broken.

Just for the ‘major’ ones, there’s tons of smaller stuff like the Abby faction (why the heck that ever became a faction besides ‘oh look, we got a system style and now we shove everything nonsensically in it!’ after all) or even longevity of the current crafting system (which can be diverted through extra progression venues at the cost of increasing choice complexity without major upsides)

I mean… all cool, hopefully happening sometimes, but plainly spoken? The current classes should’ve been 1.0 content, same as balance, same as Acts.

I’m curious if future seasons will be delivered really sooner as promised when S2 was delayed or was it just talk and we will get 1 update per year if lucky. Any estimates hang on this i guess.

I hope so absolutely, for now we don’t have any supporting actions though to let us say ‘yes, it’ll happen’. Currently it’s simply EHG’s plans… and if they can do it is to be seen.

It’s definitely needed, but also with respective quality behind it at the same time.
