It’s no secret that we get a lot of duplicate uniques (and set items). Selling them for 500 gold is often more trouble than its worth.
What would be nice is a crafting ability to “fuse” two duplicate uniques together that does something like “Reroll unique affixes”. This would allow minmaxers to pursue the perfect unique and give a use to the duplicate junk rolls.
Just hopping in to say I like the thoughts expressed in this thread.
To me, it feels strange (and ultimately bad) in a contemporary ARPG to drop duplicate uniques or set items, and having no use for them after seeing if the rolls are upgrades or not. I play other APRGs like D3, POE, Grim Dawn, and each of them have implemented systems to get some worth out of duplicates.
I think this is exacerbated by how fun it is to engage with crafting of other items in Last Epoch so far.
I can’t say for GD or PoE, I haven’t played them enough.
In D3, there is no such thing as Uniques. The Legendaries are more of very powerful but standard items.
And in Wolcen, you can’t do anything with Uniques. You either use them (some of them are efficient) or sell them.
Not my point about D3 to quibble with names, nor is it my point to debate the merits of D3’s itemization (which I would call shallow). Excess gear in D3: salvage all of it and allow for some re-working of all gear—a reroll of one affix, complete re-roll through Horadric cube, etc.
Didn’t bring up Wolcen because it’s not exactly got a robust endgame right now.
Last Epoch has fun systems for rare gear, and, to me in just my own opinion, a boring system for Unique management right now. So far, I end up using a mix of both types of gear in my builds so I notice this in my gameplay.
Meanwhile, I don’t think being able to target farm Uniques quite gets at what I’m describing.
Anyway these are opinions of one person for a feedback forum during beta
