Just wondering if full controller support is coming in 1.0 or just after launch sometime. The game plays fun with a controller currently, but I know some menus aren’t the greatest to navigate with a gamepad.
They do have improvements coming, but it will not be considered “full controller support”.
They keep working on it though.
Okay, thanks for answering! Just been wondering since I haven’t seen anything talked about it in a while. Or if it was said I might have missed it.
Kinda surprising right after I asked about this the other day, it was announced that full controller support will be at 1.0 haha.
I’ve heard one of the devs plays on controller exclusively so it makes sense it’s a priority. If my hands get tired of m&k I certainly would love to take a controller for a spin
I started playing D2R with controller more, and Grim Dawn and kinda enjoy how it feels. So i am excited for full support coming to 1.0. Hope it plays well. I liked the gameplay with it so far, but the UI needed work with the controller.
It is a mystery to me why so many devs want to reinvent the wheel. I play lots of RPGs and I prefer to use a controller.
In general, my advice to the devs would be, play the competition. Assume that your customers are playing, too. As much as possible, simply match the controller setup that those other games are using.
It’s called ‘muscle memory’. Gamers all have it. Please don’t drive us crazy when we push a button without thinking, and it does something different from what the other games are doing.
Yeah i agree with you. Playing a game that’s the same genre will help make it easy for picking up and playing since its so similar. The controller support needs work with the UI in this game overall. I wouldn’t call it Full Controller Support as of yet. Interacting with skill tree, inventory, and other UI windows are a real headache. There’s also bugs with them that need to be fixed before I would call it Full support. With UI out of the way, the combat felt pretty good with it at least (Not commanding minions though).
I will never understand prefering a controller over mouse and keyboard. I use an rog ally and this version of “full controller support” is horse s**t. You can only change like 4 thing and it is then limited even further by being 4 things they already had bound. You cant for instance bind inventory to a button. Its really infuriating. When i play on the ally everything takes much longer. Looking at items, forging, etc. Mkb itd just simple clicks.
Well, I was in the same boat as what you have said, but for someone like my wife which hasn’t had a computer until much later in life it is more awkward to play on a keyboard and mouse when compared to a controller. D3 on console did it pretty well as well as D4. But yeah for someone like me keyboard and mouse is much better feeling.
As someone who has trouble sleeping through the night, I play a lot in bed. Mouse/keyboard isn’t practical then.
I have ROG Ally, too, but it spends most of its time docked, being played from across the room.
I always used a controller on POE and Diablo. It is just more comfortable for long sessions. I wouldn’t have bought the game if there weren’t plans for full controller support. So this is great news that we might get further updates to it.
I am glad they are working on it and they did mention in the latest patch notes somewhere that they plan to release eventually on consoles so getting controllers to work well is important.
