Freeze Chance

Hi, I remember back when I started it already was a topic but I’m not sure if anyting has changed.

Right now I’m playing a cold spellblade build mainly using shatter strike as my main dps. I have almost 1700% freeze rate multiplier. I’m almost at the empowered echoes. But I noticed though I focus a lot on freezing I can’t really freeze anything.

So if I go to the formula Freeze - Last Epoch Game Guide
And let’s say I fight a mob with 1 mil HP which should be normal in corrupted:
I get (50*17,7) / 1.000.000 = 0,000885 which is 0,09% chance to freeze. It’s like non existent.
So even if I focus now on getting frostbite stacks too, it only could add max of 600% which would be 0,54% chance to freeze.
But bosses should have much more hp which again makes it kinda useless.

So my question is, is freeze rate multiplier and just freezing overall still useless or are my calculations incorrect and it works?

Can Confirm. 100% Freeze Rate needs to be looked at. Works fine at lower levels, almost never happens except to trash mobs at empowered monolith levels.

Is 1 million hp “normal” in empowered monos?

I don’t know maybe less. I can’t say it for sure. But I talk about bulky mobs. The normal ones just die to my aura, so it doesn’t matter anyway.

But even if they have like 200k, the chance would be still very low.

Darn, I’m sorry (and glad) I saw this. I’m doing a Freeze build in HC with minions and was hoping it would serve defensively.
[I’m testing before launch in a few days. Currently at level 43 and of course Freeze works well at these levels. I’m nowhere close to Monoliths, let alone empowered.

I assume Stun is the same way, then. I just wanted to do something different for a defensive build.

I was hoping that if I had minions (they cast Freeze spells as well as their base attacks) then that would be like 5x more chances of freeze per second and that could make up the difference.

The other thing that stinks is when you go for Freeze (or Stun) you are committing to low DPS in exchange for safety/CC…that trade-off is not just DPS, it’s a huge trade-off in how long it takes you to do the content.

This minion Freeze build is probably 3 times slower than my pure DPS build. I didn’t mind so much because I felt like I was pretty safe in my HC freeze bubble, but I’m not.
(Or won’t be at higher levels.)

So what’s the point? This isn’t a case of one build being 5% or 10% less effective, it’s a LOT worse than that.

Very disappointing

The number one point is damage effectiveness for your freeze rate. If you have a 400% damage effectiveness it will multiply that on top of the base skill damage. The issue is when the effectiveness of damage is calculated.

Shatter strike is also based on does it “hit” and has a flat 100% damage effectiveness. Sure it has high DPS but single and heavy mobs it fails (as it is intended to).

Can you give more infos on your build ? I guess you’re a primalist and converting some minions to cold (wolf + crow? sprig ?).

What does your gear looks like ? Does your important affixes (the one that you think helps your build) are all tagged “Minion” ?
For exemple, if you think the “Freeze rate multiplier” or “Cold damage increase” affixes helps your minion… well, it doesnt. You really need affixes that says Minion (like “Minion freeze rate multiplier”…!).

Maybe that’s a useless and obvious tip; not knowing your build and your experience with the game, it’s just speculation. If you want more specific tips, maybe import your character in the build planner of lastepoch-tools website.
