Floating character feeling & shadows

Hi all,

First of all let me say I love the game, it’s the most promising ARPG out there in my opinion. Did not play that much yet, I’m waiting for multiplayer, but I follow everything and every Last Epoch Build or Boardman21 video makes me want to dive in more

There is one thing that has disturbed me each time I have played, and continues to do so when I watch build videos and such. It’s pretty hard to describe so I’ll do my best.
I find that in most areas, the character is not well enough “anchored” to where he actually is. When he/she moves around, the distance between the character and the ground is not clear enough, it is left to the player’s habits and intuition to know that since the background moves that way, the character must be on the ground.

Comparing to other isometric ARPGs, I think that what I would need is stronger character shadows. I find that it instantly confirms for me that since the shadow starts at the character’s feet, and shadows are of course cast on the ground, the character cannot be anywhere that on firmly on the ground.

Anyone else feeling like this ? Maybe I missed an option that would alleviate my weird feeling ?

Yes, sometimes you feel everybody around you is levitating. ^^

That is indeed something I noticed as well. The character seems to be floating a bit, and the distance from feet to ground and where the character shadow begins, seems a little off. Slightly disturbing, but I guess I got used to it. If the game goes 1.0, I would expect that to be more polished than currently, otherwise it unfortunately feels and looks a bit cheap.

Yeah, it’s something I recognised, too. It’s the case when the ground’s level is not equally even throughout the map. The character is somehow stuck on a certain level and doesn’t move down when the ground goes lower.

When you zoom in on a dessert map you can see tha it fits for the areas where you walk on flat stone floor but the character seems to levitate when walking on sand.

Yes. Currently the shadow settings don’t seem to do much in terms of how dark a shadow is.

These kind of things are stealth tweaked by EHG. I noticed a visible impact for ambient occlusion now with the last patch. When I played with these settings the last time there was nothing happening. So I asume some post process effects aren’t really in or just not fleshed out.

Well I was almost thinking I was crazy but seeing your replies is very reassuring

I hope this will be improved in the future !

just played for first time TODAY, and yeah it’s bad; shadows need work

That is correct. Characters are flying above the ground, shadows are missing. It feels odd.
