Flay is not great

Imo, Flay’s Blood Eruption should occur if the enemy dies within 2 sec of the Flay hit and with Plasma Fountain node maxed it should occur every 1st time you hit a rare or boss enemy and not every 2nd time. And it’s not like it has any serious damage output the way it is right now.

I use it as my movement skill it feels like it’s underpeforming.

At the Season 4 DPS tier list of Maxroll builds, the Flay build was in second place, behind only the (eternally broken) Ballista Falconeer build.

Interesting. I think Flay is one of the best Acolyte skills right now. Giant versatile tree, so many ways to play it and all of them feel very good.

Could you post some example characters or builds that feel bad? Maybe we spot something you are missing.

I am definitely getting soft in my old age as this is second time i am agreeing with @Heavy on the same day . Apart from the issues mention by @Heavy one of the best things is that the mana consumption is well balanced so that, if you are careful and judicious in using it, you can sustain it. If you are reckless and constantly spamming you will run out.

One of my characters is a Lich that splits damage between cold and necrotic with Cold Harvest and Aura of Decay and Necrotic Spirit Plague and Flay. With Flay, I have the Spirit Leap node enabled that makes it a decent movement skill for closing gaps and I have emphasized the dot aspect of it. I rarely kill enemies with it, so the Blood eruption occurs rarely and it mostly occurs when I hit rare or boss enemies.

Unfortunately I can’t post my character build because I can’t upload it on the build planner and that’s the closest description I can give in short.

I think your feedback is not that Flay is bad or its hard to proc certain things, but your feedback is, that Flay feels bad offensively when using Spirit Leap.

I think I could see EHG maybe buffing Spirit Leap to proc all on hit effects even on the first hit when Spirit Leap is specced and maybe up the damage by like 20 or 30% more damage. Maybe even a follow up node of Spirit Leap with some further investment if you care about Flay’s damage.

Which gives the whole post a different context.

Yes, you 're probably right. It doesn’t feel that great with Spirit Leap enabled, but I also don’t understand how people play this skill as their main. For me constantly jumping around doesn’t feel great.

I am personally not super attached to the whole movement thing, but I think EHG did it very well here with Flay, much bette thant Flicker Strike in PoE (probably the closest comparison to Flay). But as a melee you have to constantly move and get close anyway, so have that build into your main skill just makes it more fluid and fast. And people generally jsut like fast and efficient builds.

For me the Mana Stacking Chaos Bolt aspect of flay is what really made me love the skill (that’s why I desgined a unique for that :D)
I think Flay is one of the few skills in a ARPG that successfully made it worth speccing hybrid melee + spells and not feeling liek you hamstringing yourself.

Well, if people like fast and efficient builds so much that they want to constantly jump around and they can do that with Flay, then it’s a good skill for them. I don’t like playing that way and I’d like to see a buff for Spirit Leap. Don’t get me wrong, I like Flay, I just don’t want to use it that way.

That would be this one?

Yes, that’s the build. How did you find it?

You can check all online characters with LETools. Just insert your account name and it will list your characters.

You can also upload your build with the build planner. Both for online and offline characters. It has instructions for both.

Ok, thanks.

Also, legacy characters are just dumped in an alphabetical list at the end of the list regardless of when you created them.
