Fixing Shield Rush Bugs, Freezes (Suggestion after a lot of testing)

Trying to play Shield rush and we are familiar with the problem of freezes when trying to do damage and spamming the key.

I’ve also noticed on the Target dummy in testing that spamming this ability doesn’t increase damage output likely due to the freezes so some attacks aren’t happening.

I’ve tried to condition myself to press Shield rush a max of 3-4 times a second to allow the attack and animation to take place. To prevent freezing and lowering my damage.

  • Suggestion would be to have Shield Rush have a .25 sec CD. This would then prevent over pressing the button and causing freezes. It would allow for the skill to do the animations and process a full attack doing the full damage.

Also is there some hidden attack speed bug? Cause attack speed from a shrine is affecting Shield rush tool tip damage. Attack speed should have ZERO affect since what cause damage is button press frequency. Unless there is something internally where attack speed speeds up the animation and some benefit?

  • If the above is true then removing any affects of attack speed and adding the CD of .25 seconds could really fix many of the Shield rush bugs.

I don’t think any attack is supposed to do more damage based on how fast we can press a button. So us spamming Shield rush to do more damage is causing crashes and false sense of doing more damage.

  • I arrived at the conclusion of these test and attacks missing by playing my Igniter build and spam pressing Shield rush (seemed to be attacking fast but it’s an illusion) cause the micro freezes of the skill aren’t attacking. I know this because if they were “hitting” they would be applying more Ignite stacks.

  • Since slowing down my cadence on the target dummy 3-4 per seconds my ignite stacks go way higher because all my attacks are landing.

After further testing today. I pressed shield rush repeatedly with low attack speed 14% and it immediately gets stuck running in place.

I then put on my big att speed gloves and raised my att speed too 62% which almost completely removed this running in place issue. It also raises the tool tip damage drastically(when it shouldn’t)

So if we remove attack speed from affecting Shield Rush since it shouldn’t at all this might solve a big problem with the bug?

Don’t get me wrong att speed doesn’t solve all the bug issue but it definitely improves the use of the ability. I just can’t understand why Shield rush is benefiting from att speed when it’s an ability that does damage based on button presses.

I guess it just is converting a traversal to main attack and some reason att speed is a factor?

I can second this. This is almost unplayable when you take Desync Charge and no cooldown. You get stuck all the time :frowning:

I think it’s because attack speed increases the animation speed. I also noticed getting stuck less often with some attack speed but no significant damage difference despite the misleading tooltip. One way to easily notice it is to use event horizon and see how often the character gets stuck in place once it has several stacks of Dilation.

Any ideas on some hard numbers for some of these “break points”? Would love to have my Shield Rush VK work reliably and not get stuck in place.

As an addendum to the issues one thing I seem to have noticed is its ability to become stuck in/around hit boxes, especially on large enemies/bosses.
