Having gone through Last Epoch on a number of characters in both pre and post launch, I keep coming back to the same issue that sees me lose interest in making characters in the game: Builds are limited by the Skill Trees as there’s a lot of power in the Skill Synergy and Auto-Cast Nodes. What this means is that should any more skills be introduced to the game, either through extra Masteries or simply by filling out existing ones with more skills, Skill Trees will have to once again be moved around to accommodate such changes.
And while Skills like Chthonic Fissure is a great example of a well designed skill that allows for a lot of options, having something like Soul Feast’s Blood Tethers be able to scale off of Drain Life or Release Hungering Souls upon consuming a Curse could go a long way to make new builds without necessarily having to patch the Skill Trees in the future as new Synergies get thought up.
Similarly, Set Items are currently incredibly boring as their bonuses are not enough to out-compete Legendary Potential, and it probably shouldn’t be the case.
My proposal is to migrate a good number, maybe even all, Skill interactions into the Set Bonus Format so that they can be taken out of the Skill Trees.
