I’ve played every class for a bit now and while Sentinel is my favorite, the movement skill choices are frustrating for me. I know that not every movement skill needs to be equal in terms of utility and power, but Sentinel has some issues.
If not using a shield, then Lunge will be your only real movement skill option. Since there’s no way to use it without a target, I’ve found myself getting “stuck” between mobs and walls/objects quite a few times. Usually this isn’t a big deal since as a sentinel you can stack defenses and facetank pretty well - that’s part of its identity and I can appreciate the need to facetank instead of escape. But it becomes a big problem during bossfights where telegraphed one-shots are so common.
A couple examples I’ve experienced:
The first Monolith boss, the Abomination thing, has trapped me while I’m killing the soul cages in the corner. Then once the cage dies and the floor becomes lava, being stuck is bad news.
Emperor of Corpses, while I was using the succ nodes for Rive, had me trapped against a wall (along with his zombies) when using his one-shot necro-breath.
It would be nice to be able to specialize into Lunge so it can be at least a semi-useful escape skill. If not allowing it to be used without a target, then maybe passing through the target and ending the attack behind them?
You are right and i did not even wanted to go too deep into that subject here, since my opinion is pretty neutral.
I cna see why people dislike that kind of movement skills.
But i think it’s ok if a class has different kind of movement skills, maybe Sentinel could use another non-target movement skill or maybe a node for Lunge that makes it mroe into a dash.
Lunge’s Skill Spec Tree is very old and boring, i guess we will reveive an overhaul eventually anyway, maybe this will brign some new capabilities with it.
Agreed. Multiple times I said that Sentinel and Primalist did not need as much mobility as Rogue, for example. But I’d say all classes need at least one kind of “escape” skill. Leap Jump is decent for this, Teleport is very good, etc. Trouble is with unspec’ed Shield Rush.
I’d argue that the Primalist is the least mobile class (at least, the non-Werebear Primalists) since Fury Leap has a 7s cooldown compared to the other skills:
Transplant, Teleport, Shield Rush have a 4s cooldown
Lunge, Shift have a 3s cooldown.
So actually, the Sentinel is more mobile than most other classes if there’s a target to Lunge to.
You did! You explicitly said that the Sentinel (and Primalist) should stay the “least mobile” class, especially the Sentinel.
I kinda get it 'cause he’s wearing plate armour & that’s heavy, though going with that, the Primalist should be pretty fast since he mainly wears fig leaves to cover his modesty & he does look pretty ripped.
Primalist looks pretty bulky, but also very athletic.
So while he doesn’t like like a olympia sprinter, he does look very much capable of running very fast.
And thematically i really do like Fury Leap, but that skill also has a Skill Tree old as hell.
So i definitely would like to see a overhaul of that too and maybe some “movement” skill that just gives you a speed boost, not sure if other primalist player would like that.
Maybe a 2-3 second speed boost with some other interesting mechanics inside the skill tree.
