Feedback as it Were

I’ve probably got about 200-250 hours in the going all the way back to alpha. I’m obviously not nearly as skilled and experienced as a number of folks are on the board but I’d like to offer some feedback/praise etc. My background is D1 (WAYYYYYYYYYY back in the day.) Skipped D2 because the games movement gave me motion sickness. Played D3 a lot. Play Grim Dawn currently, a lot. Tried PoE on 3 different occasions and just didn’t ‘get it.’ So all of this colors any commentary I may have.

I do read the forums so some of this stuff may have been mentioned and I just haven’t seen it.

Story: I’m a story guy. As a filmmaker story and visuals are the reason I play aRPGs. Aside from dabbling into strategy games on occasion these are about the only types of games I like to play. I really like the LE story. While not something cutting edge original (nothing really is anyway) it’s still fresh, enjoyable and I can sit back and start immersing myself in it. I find many of the characters interesting, though they could definitely be fleshed out even more which would be nice. I hope we get a chance to really touch on the backgrounds that each character have when they first start and you have their cut scenes. It’d be great to have some of this crop back into the story as it moves forward. I’m definitely looking forward to the added acts and some of the fleshing out of the current acts.

Visuals: I have read and fully appreciate that the gang at LE is focusing primarily on GAMEPLAY and the visuals will be tapered in as the game play solidifies. I like the visual look of the individual ERAs and am looking forward to seeing how the visuals manifest because I really want to LOVE them. My biggest visual complaint currently is that there are many instances where the ground the character walks on and the way the animation moves it actually doesn’t look like the character is actually ON it.

Gameplay: Enjoying it a lot. It has its own pace compared to the other games I’ve played which is something that takes getting use to but it comes into focus. It’s nice, not too fast, not too slow. And it’s fun to pick strategies and how to deal with certain creatures once you begin to pick up on what their attacks do. My biggest issue currently with the game play is actually a visual interface issue. The cursor. There are so many bright groundscapes and so many bright and flashy effects that the cursor CONSTANTLY disappears in the miasma. It makes targeting sometimes difficult so much that I have to try and disengage just so I can find my mouse cursor.

Wonderful game, happy to have contributed and will continue to do so. Looking forward to everything being developed. The devs are very responsive here in the forums and with laying out plans and such it’s refreshing and hopefully earns some good will as they work through various kinks and milestones.

This really would be nice. There’s on additional part that I would see more fleshed out, as you say: Enemy bosses. At the moment there’s like no lore regarding act bosses.

So there is a character intro now. Will there be a global intro, too? Will there be cut scenes between acts? Would be really nice. Adding some more scenes like the short fight between Heorot and Rayeh would be nice.

Maybe it’s already on the list. Who knows? (I think I know who knows )

Wolcen did a really good job regarding this matter, recently. All bosses you fight have a weight on the story and are introduced through cut scenes.
Story telling is also something that the Diablo Series did very (veryvery) well.

Yes. It’s why Cain, Mephisto, and the iconic Diablo still resonant strongly with ARPG fans today (and in Cain’s case, why D3 story was so heavily panned), but Greust, Dominus and Kitava in POE never rise to the same status.

Totally agree on both accounts. They didn’t just serve an in-game purpose for the mechanical side of play but actually the intrinsic importance they had to they story as a whole. One of the difficulties I think they have is that given the story hops from time period to time period it is tough to have some of the characters follow you to create that bond. The two right now that I’m looking forward to seeing how they develop are Yulia and Grael. I also really liked Alric. I hope some of these are woven more strongly though-out the story (I have a feeling Yulia definitely will.)
