Favoring items to drop based on Mastery

I’ve noticed while playing that I tend to see a lot more items that are geared toward the particular class I’m playing. Would it be better if the items tended to drop based on mastery instead? The masteries are so different in many cases that they may as well be considered separate classes, and it seems kind of odd to find a lot of gear for a lich when I’m playing necro. That incentivizes me to make another acolyte instead of trying a totally different class, which feels off.

I can’t say I’ve noticed this. I find that I get a pretty average spread of items overall, except for idols. Idols do seem to drop a lot more for your class than for others.

Nope.

I’d prefer a slight weighting, because I’d like to gear the char I’m playing, primarily… and have alt/twink gear be a ‘nice to drop’. But I wouldn’t want it to the extreme of D3, where gear for other classes feels like a 5% drop, at best.

Item types are already weighted slightly based on class, not mastery. I do thik this is enough.
(Bows drop less for non rogue classes, catalyst drop less for primalist, rogue and sentinel etc.)

System is called Item Affinity and was implemented in the 0.7.X Patch Cycle.

Affixes and Unique/Set items are not affected and that is how it should be.

Don’t get me wrong, I come from D2 where there’s no weighting one way or another and that’s perfectly satisfactory for me when you factor in trading or twinking. It just seems odd as a design decision to get a lot of items to gear up another character of the same class if the intent is to weight items toward the character you’re already playing.

What are the mastery drops, though? Items are only restricted by class and not mastery. And when you can access all of the other mastery skills except 1, you can make any kind of build. There are many builds that are based on a skill from another mastery.
Also, the weight doesn’t seem to be that big, except for idols.

And any in the top section which is usually 1-2.
