Factions balance

If you have a limit to the things you can put up for sale, then it might. If you think something is even worth just a single chaos you’ll put it up for sale. And if you’re a new player still gearing up, you might buy a few of those cheap items.
However, if you have to grind for favor just to place an item for sale, you might not bother with the lower gear and instead just sell stuff that is worth 20c or more. Which means that you have a harder time finding just basic gear to equip on your starter character.

So it might impact the market. We’ll have to see how things develop at 1.0 and also what the devs might change post-launch until trade is the way they like it.

Oh. Sure. You were just talking about it as if nobody would buy them. I guess for lower end gear it could affect that. Although, LE’s crafting system makes getting gear that’s good enough to start out (besides uniques) fairly trivial. I don’t know that this is really a problem that needs solving in the same way it does for PoE.

PoE SSF doesn’t suck because it’s not as good as trading. It sucks because it’s so bad on it’s own that you can’t expect to see half the content.

As someone who has played SSF for 12 years with a friend (yes we opted into SSF before SSF was a league thing) we have seen 1 Mage Blood, 0 Head hunters 1 pair of skyforths between us. That’s 24 years of PoE  Pretty crazy when you think about it.

It’s almost like GGG nerfed the drop rates into the ground because of trading.

Yeah, that’s just the thing. Comparing just about anything to POE is pointless. POE is a completely different beast… with their crafting items also doubling as currency. That’s why crap items exist on their trade. I could spend X Alcs or X Chaos to try and shore up my resists + dmg mod. OR, I could just spend 2 Alcs in trade and get an item that covers 75% of my need.

Just think how many Alts it takes to get +2 mod on a weapon. OR, just buy it for a few Chaos.

LE is different. You need void resist and +health… if you have the shards (chances are you do), make the item. Trade in LE really only becomes necessary for build-altering Uniques and/or BiS item acquisition(s).

It also makes it easier to get all or most of the desired affixes on a desired base that you can the craft up a bit because it bypasses the RNG you experience in drops (even though somebody else has had that sadness-inducing RNG which gave them the trash that they’ve sold that becomes your treasure (or craftable treasure).

It doesn’t have to be solely about the build enabling uniques/idols/etc.
