I’m pretty new to LE, and I’m playing a burn spellblade. Looking at Exothermic & Incineration they both say they consume stacks. Has anyone tested to see if they both see stacks at the same time, or does one take priority over the other? Since I’m focusing more on Burn damage I’m more interested in Exothermic using the stacks, but if they both snapshot at the same time then I can get some decent extra damage from the one point in Inineration.
You’re talking about Firebrand tree nodes and using Flame Reave to consume both?
Helps to mention that
I mean, it’s easy to test: Exothermic grants atleast 1 extra Ignite stack, so if you currently have 183% Ignite chance and you get 3 stacks from the Flame Reave, it works. The Incineration is a bit harder due to 20% variance on hits, but if you have both talents and do some testing on a dummy with consuming 3+ stacks vs 0 stacks with Flame Reave, I’m sure we can help with the statistics if you post your results!
(Assuming someone else hasn’t done the work testing yet)
Oops, I totally forgot to mention the skills I was talking about! But that is the interaction I meant, thanks.
Pretty sure what happens is taking certain nodes gives the stacks of firebrand additional stats. So if you have Exothermic then firebrand stacks gain the stat “+100% ignite chance with Flame Reave” (similare to the +x% ignite chance for fire skills that Calamity has but restricted to Flame Reave rather than fire skills). Then if you have Incineration firebrand stacks gain the stat “+×% more melee damage”.
Then when you use another skill while you have stacks of firebrand the game checks whether that skill is permitted to consume them (ie, using a spell would do nothing unless you have the Brand of Arcanus/Arcane Sharpshooter) & the stacks can be consumed then the skill that consumes them inherits any modifiers the stacks grant. So if a (non-Flame Reave) melee skill consumed the stacks then it would only inherit the more melee damage stat, but if Flame Reave consumed them it would inherit both (or rather, the non-Flame Reave melee skill wouldn’t benefit from the ignite chance 'cause that’s specific to Flame Reave).
I checked this briefly when respeccing my spellblade to a Flame Reave build and yes, from my limited testing I was getting more damage on the flame reave as well as ignite stacks when taking both nodes.
