Exiled Mages Loot?

Do you all keep all the loot they drop OR just the purple/blue items? What does everyone do with their exiled mages loot 'D?

I suppose you mean the Experimental Items right? Cause the Mages can drop all kinds of regular loot as well.

So, generally I only keep an Experimental if I plan on ever using it on a build at any stage of the current cycle to come. And only if it’s a tier 5, as I have my filter set to hide everything below that.

Overall, they’re really versatile, and you can find plenty of use for them, especially because you have a guaranteed way of sealing the affix with a Rune of Research, and craft a must-have affix in it’s place.

When I play minion builds, for example, I almost always use a tier 5 minimum Experimental on Boots for % minion damage and minions teleporting together when you use a traversal skill.
Or when I play any Rogue builds, I tend to use the Experimental for Haste and Haste Effect on boots, and +Dodge rating and endurance threshold if not been hit recently on gloves.
I don’t play ward builds, so I don’t know about them, but I suppose the Experimental Ward affixes are also pretty good if you need it.

Only experimental lower than T5 I keep is generally when there’s another must-have exalted affix on the same item… That’s the only way I ever even see them dropping.

You also have a guaranteed way of getting the experimental affix you want with the glyph of insight. So you don’t really need to pick them up to get it.

It was very good in 1.0, but ward changes seem to pretty much have killed any low-life builds.

Yeah, I used to like those better. But then I realized you can never actually get a T5 from it, I just started ignoring them.

Sure, but the “life to ward” is not the only ward experimental available.
There is Decay threshold + ward on pot use, Ward gain on kill + Decay Threshold, Ward gain on traversal skill + ward gain per missing mana on traversal skill.

This is not true, though. You can get a T5 affix. You can use this tool to simulate the effect of the glyph: Glyph of Insight

Well, technically yes. But for that, you need to give up on sealing the desired T5 experimental, since you need to have a sealed T2+ already on the item for the outcome of a T5 experimental.

But now this got me wondering if it’s possible to have two experimental on the same item using a combination of Research + Insight.
Intriguing… never tried it.

Glyph specifically says you can’t:
“Only works on gloves, boots, and belts, and does not work if the item already has an experimental affix.”

Oh shoot. I don’t think I ever read the description of that glyph past the initial phrase, then went straight to google to figure it out and never really looked at it again.
Thanks, I was actually thinking bout trying this later.

The reason I ask is because I have 5 stash tabs of just experimental gear. I was wondering if you all got rid of the yellow/blue and just kept the purple/blue ;D.

I see…
In my opinion, you should really only keep the yellow ones if you plan on using them for a specific build, and only if the Experimental affix is at tier 5.
The purple ones might be useful even if the Experimental is not at tier 5, but I personally wouldn’t keep them unless I also plan on using them for a specific build I might have in mind.
