Erasing strike weapon preference

So, I’ve been making a void cleave/erasing strike void knight following a couple of the available guides. Every one uses Apathys Maw until you get a World Splitter, which feels like a lifetime away. What about Sword Catcher? It’s got same base damage, decent void stats, but also up to +6 to cleave and strike! Shouldn’t that pretty much outperform everything if properly rolled?

I assume it’s because of the higher melee from Apathy’s Maw. You get 191-211 flat melee, as opposed to the 158-169 from Sword Catcher, unless you can find a way to always have frenzy. You would also lose the 75%-110% increased damage and, more importantly, the Doom debuff, which is a multiplicative 4% more damage per stack, as well as the extra penetration you get from it.
I don’t think the extra skill points will be as important as those stats since you usually already have the most impactful skill points by then.

Maybe someone can point out something I missed or give you a different advice, but that’s how I see it.

I use a swordcatcher as well. +6 to melee skills is just really nice. I have compared it to a decent Maw on the dummies and it appears that the Catcher outperforms it, honestly. That said, I think once I move to a shattered chains belt, doom will be the way.

You can get Doom with Siphon of Anguish
