Killed Lagon with a void knight and my last hit was erasing strike causing him to become Lagone.

There are even cooler and also useful interactions than this.
For example, if you kill the spirits of fire bosses with ES, their on-death boss mechanics does not trigger.

Yup, this is a known bug.
You can also bork his AI with fear on hit & Anomaly.
